“Perseverance is defined by continuing to try in spite of failure. However, too many people quit before reaching their objectives or goals. Failure is usually only temporary and success is usually never permanent. As a youngster, I learned this saying, “Life is queer with its twists... and turns, as every one of us sometimes learns. When care is pressing you down a bit, rest if you must but you mustn’t quit.” Never give up; keep finding a way. If there isn't a way, make a way.”

Discipline is a word that makes people very uncomfortable. However, without it the world and ones life would be chaotic. Discipline is not an innate quality; it's something that has to be acquired and then practiced. Discipline in how we live our lives is critical to our success. ...We may have it in one aspect of our life but be lacking in other parts. The process that makes discipline work starts with a commitment to ones self and then to others. You must start with a day at a time, then a week, then a month. I find if you put your commitment in writing, keep a copy for yourself and then give a copy to a friend or a relative who you trust you will be on your way to the disciplined life; a life of balance, trust, and peace.

“Many years ago Albert E. Gray wrote the book entitled, “The Common Denominator of Success.” When I first read it I bought into right away. What it really boils down to is that “Successful people do the things the Unsuccessful people refuse to do.” It sounds simple but challenging a...t best. However, I believe if you do the small things in work or in life correctly, the big things will naturally follow in good fashion. So this week try to do the most insignificant things well and you will be surprised how life will flow positively for everyone, including yourself.”

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week: Nov 9-Nov15
In today's world we must fight to keep our family in tact. It is the life raft of safety in this changing world of one storm after another. Family is where we first learn our identity and our potential. At first we learn to live together, and then we learn to make our own way. We are t...rained on team work and individual accountability. Our family gives us roots and wings then we choose which ones we need. Family togetherness is worth fighting for... “So Fight, Fight, Fight...”

“Nobody gets out of live alive. I have attended my share of wakes in the last couple of years and it seems I'm going to one a month. The theme at these services is always the same, "celebration of life. " The speaker at each service seems to have a common thread. How wonderful the perso...n was and the great contribution they made in their lives. I think we need to tell people when they are alive how much they mean to us and how much we love them. It's too late when they're dead. Try and tell someone this week how much you love them and appreciate them. It will make a big difference in their life and yours."

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week: Oct 26-Nov 1
“Depth and breadth of a particular subject matter is something we should strive for in all our endeavors. Take the concept of love or for that matter the word itself; people use it all the time. I often wonder do we really know what it means. To love deeply and with the breadth I'm r...eferring to is an awesome way of loving. Loving this way is a feeling that can be achieved by making a commitment to someone or some passion in life and then truly giving it all you have to offer. We can love with depth and breadth by making the choice to do so. This is not easily achieved but worth the art of loving in the way we were created to live our lives."

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week: Oct 12-Oct 18
"Leadership gravitates to the task oriented person. This translates to a simple example; if you were on a plane and it crashed and everyone survived, you would know who the leaders were very quickly. The leaders are the ones who step up and organize the rest of the group. The leader...s are the ones who first help the injured, the ones who set the tone for the rest of the group. Anyone can be a leader, but sometimes it means getting your hands dirty. So step up to the task at hand this week. Soon people will be viewing you as a leader."

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week Oct 5-Oct 11
“A text without a context is a pretext. This means sometimes people blurt out statements without thinking or even speaking with a forked tongue. The truth is something that is hard for most of us. People say things like, “I never lie.” Check yourself this week and see if you can speak ...and see the truth. This is challenging at best but a worthwhile exercise. It will challenge you to be the best you can be. Sounds easy? Have fun with it.”

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week Sept 28 –Oct 4
“One of the speakers I have enjoyed and experienced over time is Dr. Steven Covey. He wrote a book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” My favorite is “Begin with the End in Mind.” This is what I call the Art of Visualization. Visualize yourself performing the task befo...re undertaking it. For example, if you are playing golf, visualize shooting well; practice in your mind a successful round. The same goes for a meeting or even something more challenging like a dialogue on a business deal. As crazy as it sounds, it works. The harder you work at this the better the end result. Begin today with the end in mind.”

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week: Sept 21-27
"Self image is something people suffer from. A lack of self esteem can put you in a personal prison or keep you in a life of mediocrity. As God's loving children we have no right not to like ourselves when we know God made and loves us as his own. Make a personal commitment to look at ...yourself from God's point of view, not yours. I bet you will see a different and a better you."

“I do a lot of volunteer work, serving my fellow man in the community and our church. I find some of my fellow volunteers putting limits on themselves as to what they can/should do. I try to put myself in situations where I do the work "nobody else wants to do." This week do something f...or somebody/some organization no one else has stepped up to do. You will be happy you did.”

Ernie Bono Sr.

Ernie Bono Sr. Thought of the Week: Aug10-16 Being interdependent on others can accomplish great things. Increase others and decrease ourselves as people respond to this kind of behavior. Many try to control people and situations. I know as I did this for a large part of my life. When I gave up controlling people and situations, I sa...w them become more confident and productive. Give away the credit; you will get to keep the reward.

"The word commitment is an often overused word. Athletes, captains of industry, and the media overuse the word at random. Do we know what it means? I was having the great American breakfast this morning and it hit me; the chicken participated in the breakfast but the hog was really com...mitted. Think about the things you are involved in. Do you just participate or are you committed?"

“Personal goals are essential in our lives. One reason people fail to fulfill their dreams is because they don't put their goals in writing. If goals aren't in writing, you just don't understand them. My suggestion is to make a list of 50-60 life time goals to challenge yourself.... I have done it and it’s a lot of fun, very motivating and gives you hope for the future.”
