Museum of Natural and Cultural History

Museum of Natural and Cultural History The Museum of Natural and Cultural History will host an open house for those interested in volunteering on Thursday, Jan. 7, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the museum, 1680 E. 15th Ave. During the open house, museum staff will be on hand to discuss all opportunities and benefits of service and provide tours of the museum exhibits....
"Volunteering time at the museum offers the opportunity to work with our new exhibit, "Oregon's Past Reveled: Whales of Deep Time," which features a working paleontology lab run by volunteers," said Ann Craig, assistant director of education at the museum.
Training sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 12 to 28 at the museum. Training will combine hands-on learning, lectures and discussions.
Other programs offered this winter include a natural history lecture series on climate and evolution and a fossil family day where volunteers will provide valuable services for the museum.

Museum of Natural and Cultural History In conjunction with the opening of Night Drawings and Other Late Works in our main gallery, a noteworthy McCosh oil painting, Wigwam Burner will be presented for sale in the Karin Clarke Annex at 749 Willamette Street. Wigwam Burner, painted in the 1930s, is a fine example of McCosh's earlier paintings depicting the la...ndscape of Oregon. The sale of this work, which was generously donated by Mir Starlin, will benefit the new exhibit wing at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History.

After more than a decade of planning, the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History is undertaking major expansion. The new collections center is now completed; an upcoming new exhibit gallery will dramatically increase space for exhibits and programs; finally, a third phase will include an archaeological research wing.

A Reception will be held in the Annex on First Friday, December 4, 2009. Wigwam Burner will remain on display through December 19, 2009.

The Karin Clarke Gallery Annex is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.
