The annual Holiday Ceramic Sale fundraiser, at the McGaw YMCA, 1000 Grove St., is in its 18th year. This year’s sale is Friday, December 4 (5-9 p.m.), Saturday, December 5 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), and Sunday, December 6 (12-5 p.m.). Admission is free.

The show features 12 Chicagoland ceramists. All will be present to answe...r your questions. The ceramists are very pleased to welcome visiting artist, Debra K. Sampson, who will be showing her new raku work. All are accomplished potters-- teachers, workshop leaders, and/or gallery members. Among the talented group, Yuki Nyhan and Roberta Polfus are both featured in Lill Street’s recent international competition. Not to mention, Mary Dye, current teacher at the Evanston Art Center, who creates wood-fired pottery, guaranteed to “warm the soul.”

A wide selection of artwork is available at a variety of prices. Customers can purchase one of kind, hand-made items, for people on their holiday lists!

Each year, 20% of the proceeds from the Ceramic Sale go to support the McGaw YMCA and it’s many program areas. The generous support of First Bank & Trust of Evanston will underwrite the costs of the 2009 Ceramic Sale.

Come out to support the McGaw YMCA and the local artists! We always have a great time!

McGaw YMCA - Evanston Two memorial services were held for Tom Hebbard here at the Y - one on Wednesday evening and one this morning. The Chinnock Lounge was filled with his friends - Y members, Y staff, community members - sharing their memories of Tom. He opened the doors of the Y in the morning in a sense far beyond the literal one.
Read Len Joy's tribute on his blog for an example.

Tom Hebbard died Friday. Tom worked the midnight shift at the Evanston Y. I never knew his last name until I got the noticed that he had died.I did my first triathlons (sprints) in 2005. That fall I decided I could improve my cycling skills by taking spinning classes at the Y. ...
