J.E. Smith Gallery
Beginning Friday, Aug 21, J.E. Smith Gallery will feature two sculptural exhibits simultaneously.
In Room 1: Rob Millard-Mendez unveils sculptures with toy-like humorous and interactive twists in Puppets/Personae. Describing many of his works as “humorous statements about human interactions”, all of Rob’s characters, ea...ch having their own distinct personality, include interactive elements that the viewer can play with, thereby transitioning from merely observer of the art to participant. Each is intended to involve the viewer on multiple levels: physical, visual and intellectual.
In Room 2: Greed, anger, pride, gluttony, envy, lust and sloth… What does each of these vices have in common? Besides being one of the original seven deadly sins, they are also each now represented in sculptural form by an artist from Evansville, Indiana. Despite ranging in tone, all of the sculptures find a common ground in the interpretation of their “sin” in a way that communicates rich and skillfully crafted content certain to hold the viewer’s attention, both in questioning and amusement. Contributing artists are: Deborah Ball, Lenny Dowhie, Janet Van Fleet, Jill Foote-Hutton, Nancy Raen-Mendez, Rob Millard-Mendez and Stacy Latt-Savage.
Double the sculptures, double the sin!
