Eve of Destruction

Having survived (more or less -- being painfully brought back to life counts as surviving, right?) the rigors of her introduction to the world of the Marked, where human sinners are transformed into demon hunters on a mission from God, overseen by the Archangels, Evangeline Hollis is off to "boot camp." While her lover, Abel, is assigned to hunt down a particular rouge demon, his brother, Cain, is pulled in to help when the trainees in Eve's group are murdered in particularly horrific ways -- ways that suggest a traitor in their midst, and an escalation of the Infernals' powers to previously unprecedented levels. Eve must struggle with her relationships with the brothers, her teammates and whatever is hunting them, and her own changes, both physical and philosophical, as her powers develop. Another exciting outing in one of my favorite new series.

Todays review is on S.J. Day's Marked series. There are three books Eve of Darkness, Eve of Destruction, and Eve of Chaos. I really enjoyed this series and thought is was wonderful. I am hoping there will be more books released in this series.

Eve of Destruction is the rare sophomore effort that is even better than the original novel. I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could get through them, wondering what was around each corner and enjoying every turn.

All in all, Eve of Destruction is a great addition to the Evangeline Hollis story. Since this isn't a trilogy, but an ongoing series (apparently, anyway), it doesn't suffer from any kind of "second-book syndrome." It's a fun, quick read, and as long as you're not quick to be offended by taking Christian figures and situations and playing around with them, this series so far is worth the effort.

EVE OF DESTRUCTION by S.J. Day is the second book in the Marked series. It is well written with mystery and well detailed scenes, which include fierce fights and scorching interactions between Eve and Cain, as well as Eve and Abel.
