Stephen Jay Gould's idea of "non-overlapping magisteria" (NOMA) was just another inept attempt by a theist to dodge the criticisms of modern science. If theistic religion only made claims about the unseen world, Gould might have had a point. Unfortunately, the Bible makes statements, assertions, and tells stories about, the physical world...thus it's rather ridiculous to say that the two "magisteria" don't overlap. Just another desperate attempt to dodge a bullet that failed...

By the way, they can already teach religion in public schools...just not in SCIENCE class. The "Creationist" view of things simply is NOT science. Science is done via empirical observation of the physical world, not blindly believing the writings of superstitious desert dwellers from the Bronze Age.

Evolution

Evolution In biology, evolution is change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms from one generation to the next.

These changes are caused by a combination of three main processes: variation, reproduction, and selection. Genes that are passed on to an organism's offspring produce the inherited traits that are the b...asis of evolution.

These traits vary within populations, with organisms showing heritable differences in their traits. When organisms reproduce, their offspring may have new or altered traits.

These new traits arise in two main ways: either from mutations in genes, or from the transfer of genes between populations and between species. In species that reproduce sexually, new combinations of genes are also produced by genetic recombination, which can increase variation between organisms.

Evolution occurs when these heritable differences become more common or rare in a population.

There are many scientists who are very spiritual and who are very religious. To think your are one of few would be very wrong.

And Nancy, there is no argument against evolution except in the minds of the overtly dangerous religious folks who are afraid that understanding evolution will in fact work to show there own fears that they are without faith.

Ryan, why not any other religion or religious representative. Religions go far back in the the prehistoric time and have never produced much good other then hate for the others. Inner spirituality can be achieved without regard to religion, and the realities of evolution can and do exist with no issues.... See More

We live in the either of evolution every day, it just works that way.
