Alaska Sea Grant College Program Did You Know...that the vampire squid (vampyroteuthis infernalis) lives in the deep, oxygen-minimum zone, where few other animals can survive? The vampire squid is a "living fossil," which has remained relatively unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. —Field Guide to Squids and Octopods of the Eastern North Pacific and Bering Sea, p.86

Field Guide to Squids and Octopods of the Eastern North Pacific and Bering Sea. Even tho there are no pictures of clarinet playing squids in this book, the pictures we do have are "absolutely perfect."

Hey, we just received two advance copies of this new sea critter book! My thanks to the author, Elaina Jorgensen of NOAA, for agreeing to publish with us... By pure chance, a few years ago I happened to stumble across the fact that Elaina was working on this manuscript, tracked her down and asked if she needed a publisher, and voila, three years later, a finished product! Funny how these things come about sometimes.....

The design process for this book was a welcome challenge. A large amount and variety of information had to be placed on each page. Careful consideration was given to the font choice (Meta, one of my favorite san serifs)....it had to be readable at a small size. A lot of work was required for the photographs as many had to be cut out from the background. Overall, this field guides was very satisfying to work on and I'm happy with the printed piece.
