Fingertips
This week's songs will be from Scanners (previously on Fingertips in '06), Princeton, and Class Actress, if all goes according to plan. Expect reviews online tomorrow. Don't forget about the Hall & Oates contest (see below), which not only gives you a chance to win an excellent box set but gives you an opportunity to c...onfess about the least hip band that you love. Just to me; I won't tell anyone.Read More

Fingertips Another Contrast Podcast is out-- that's the theme-based, group-sourced weekly podcast I mentioned last week. This week's theme: songs with egregious rhymes.

Fingertips
Bad
news, which I'm hoping is temporary as possible: the Fingertips server is completely down. Doesn't sound initially promising, so it's unlikely to be resolved quickly. The blog still functions, so I'll put the full contest details up there. In the meantime, I've got my fingers crossed, and not just the tips.

Here's where you'll find the blog. Contest details will be online here pretty soon.

Fingertips There's a brand new Fingertips Contest online, the prize this time being the brand new box set "Do What You Want, Be Who You Are," from Daryl Hall & John Oates. It's a big fat chronological career overview. These guys got so unhip for a while they're hip again. You know how it goes.

Sean H. Campbell Jeremy, your reviews of all three songs this week are spot-on as usual, but your notes on "In Perfect Time" are eerie and awesome. I didn't fully understand the "magic" of the recording style until I cranked it up in some nice headphones. No matter how loud you go, it sounds amazing, but the vocals sink deeper and deeper. So mysterious!

Fingertips The MP3s this week will come from Think About Life, Will Stratton, and the Sun. Yes, just "the Sun." Intriguing, but rather a bad name in the Google age. Excellent song, however. Reviews online tomorrow, at some point. In the meantime, read the essay. Yeah I know it's long, but it's interesting, honest.

Fingertips The new Fingertips Commentary is complete, except for one last sweep through for elusive typos. This'll be posted officially tomorrow but here's a sneak peak.

Fingertips The Fingertips Top 10 has been recently updated. Songs only stay there for a maximum of three months, so it's always a little different as the weeks go by. And it's an easy way to be sure you haven't missed the best stuff. Because those weeks, they do go by...

Fingertips Keep forgetting to mention but I've been contributing pretty regularly to the Contrast Podcast, which is a kind of group-sourced weekly music podcast, based around random themes each week. This has nothing to do with free & legal MP3s per se but it might be something some of you are interested in checking out.

Fingertips Featured songs this week are coming from Ravens & Chimes (NYC-based indie rock), Tahiti 80 (breezy but powerful French pop, in English), and Múm (mysterious Icelandic wonderfulness, third time on Fingertips). Reviews online tonight or tomorrow.

Fingertips Hey, not sure if I've often mentioned this here but the Fingertips Twitter stream is a good, extra source of free & legal MP3s. I link there to notable MP3s as I find them; sometimes I go on to feature them in a review on the main site, but often not. Also links there to news and observations about the digital music scene.

Fingertips Aiming for getting the reviews up on Tuesday this week; featured songs will be from Surfer Blood, Audra Mae, and Bear in Heaven. Also working on a new commentary piece, perhaps online by week's end. Stay tuned...

Fingertips After all the usual cogitation and teeth-gnashing, this week's song selections have emerged: expect reviews of MP3s from Holopaw, Slideshow Freak, and Headlights online by late today or early tomorrow. For those keeping score at home, Holopaw and Headlights have been here before; check the Master Artist List for previous reviews.
