First Fridays Art Walk proves that the arts can play a vital role in the renewal of Downtown Richmond while creating awareness of the Region’s thriving arts scene. What began as a grassroots initiative to organize the traditional “first Fridays” opening receptions and attract more visitors to Downtown, has become Rich...mond’s most popular arts event and has made Downtown our premier cultural destination. First Fridays Art Walk is a multidisciplinary arts and cultural event and takes place on the first Friday of each month, rain or shine. While a majority of venues are open 7-10pm, the restaurants open around 5pm and some galleries stay open until midnight, so please check out our website for details and monthly updates. Over 30 diverse galleries, cultural organizations, shops, restaurants, and accommodations located along Historic Broad Street east of Belvidere St and sprinkled into Historic Jackson & Monroe Wards participate in the 9th Season. Curated Culture, Inc coordinates Richmond's First Fridays Art Walk, taking over efforts for the original volunteer steering committee comprised of the original nine participating venues. Since 2003, Curated Culture has coordinated the marketing, logistics, fundraising, community and media relations, and programming for the event, growing it to become Richmond's most popular arts and cultural event. The individual participating locations plan, curate, and execute their own exhibitions and events.
