Oh, and if the fillets are really thin, it might take less time to cook. If the thickest part is, say, around an inch thick/high, 20 minutes is usually enough time.

@Erica: In some ways weight loss is such a simple thing, but in other ways it's seems like the hardest thing in the world to do! It can be frustrating when you don't see any progress. Try to look at a lack of progress as feedback: "Okay, I did this for a couple of weeks and it didn't work. What can I change, what can I do differently?"

I don't know your stats, so I don't know if 1800 calories a day is right for you. I have calorie deficit calculator that estimates different calorie deficits:

http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/caloriedeficitcalculator.php... See More

If you think the calories seem right and you're tracking everything you eat (that is, if you're sure you're not underestimating how many calories you're eating), then it's a matter of burning extra calories.

Something to look at: Are you bored with the workouts because they're too difficult or because they're not challenging enough? If they're too difficult, you may need to back off/regroup and start with a walking program (like: http://walking.about.com/cs/walkoflife/a/walkoflife.htm ). If they're not challenging enough, you may want to look into different activities. Maybe heading outside would motivate you? Think of any physical activities in the past that you liked, even as a kid. Maybe that will spark some ideas.

Here's an article by John Sifferman on exercise boredom:

http://www.fitwatch.com/weight-loss/a-simple-solution-to-exercise-boredom-its-not-what-you-think-535.html

A general rule of thumb for an exercise plan is cardio 3 to 5 times a week, strength training 2 to 3 times a week, plus flexibility (2 - 3 times a week at least; ideally 5 - 7).

There is a way for you to burn fat -- it's just a matter of tweaking things to find the right combination of food and exercise (and motivation). :-)

Lee Lee's Blessings Does anyone think that by planning my meals out will help me stay on track?

It sure can! I've got an article on meal planning here:

http://www.fitwatch.com/weight-loss/how-to-put-together-a-meal-plan-537.html

If you want to keep it simple, see where you have the most trouble during the week and plan out what you will eat. For example, someone who heads to the vending machines at work for a mid-afternoon snack could plan out snacks for the week and bring them to work.

FitWatch What does being fit feel like to you? Have you ever been fit? How did it change your life? (Or were you always fit, from childhood on?)

I watched a lot of TV when I was kid. Did some biking and playing, etc. but no organizeed sports. In my teens -- well, let's just say I didn't treat myself well (smoking, no breakfast, french fries for lunch, etc.)

It wasn't until my mid-20s that I got serious about exercise. I started weight training and haven't looked back since.

Being fit feels like: strength, energy, straight back, powerful, empowering, confidence -- being able to do things you weren't able to do before.... See More

If you've never been fit before, you've got to try it out! It's an amazing feeling! :-)

My childhood was the same as yours...and then into my teens I was VERY skinny but unhealthy...and not fit...now that I am in my 30's I realize how important it is to be fit and healthy not just skinny...I have a lot of weight to loose and a long way to go but at least I know that I am on the right path this time...

Tony - thanks. I would like to build my life around excercise, etc but it's not going to work for now. Normal life complicates things too much. I have to catch the train to uni at 7 and the gym only opens at 6, and I still need to get from gym to station if I go that early - besides I refuse to believe there's any time earlier than 5am, lol.

I am... See More still trying to get the walking in though which I generally do when I get home from uni so around 7-9pm.

Good luck with the insanity/p90x workouts anyway

FitWatch What was your biggest shock when reading a food label? Mine was probably seeing 23g of fat in a butter pecan tart (and something like 300+ calories). That was enough to make me stop eating them!

Salt! For sure...last year it was Trans Fat (since I'm always on the lookout for kids' snacks), this year it's Salt. I never bothered to look. But like everything else, once you know...you can't ignore it any longer.

I didn't do a regular workout today. I've been hauling gravel, laying it out for a cement job this weekend. That was 5 hours of heavy work for sure.

I guess I could say that I have stuck with doing something physical at least 5 days a week since I started this journey. It may have not been a regular workout or routine but working outside has got to count too! At least my back and muscles tell me it does!
