Bill Rice
Hi, I'm Bill Rice and I am running for the School Board on November 3, 2009.

With three children in Flat Rock schools I, like you, have a vested interest in offering the highest quality education.

I want to meet you and listen to your expectations.

Bill Rice Tonight is my first School Board meeting following the election. I don't take office until January, but I will be getting more involved in transition. What's on your mind?

Special education seems to enjoy some special government grant funding, which is good. I am meeting with the administrators to learn more about our specific special education programs in Flat Rock over the next couple of weeks.

We are going to have some open/public forums on the budget in the new year. These forums will help set the budget strategies for 2010 and into 2011. I encourage all parents to get involved in this process.

Yeah, it picked up. 1362, which was slightly bigger than the last general election, I think.

Bill Rice Almost 80 comments on The News Herald article profiling the Flat Rock School Board candidates, but not a single comment on either the Mayor or City Council candidates. Not sure what to think of that? Thoughts?

apparently school board is where it at...seems like mayor and city council is where you have to go if you can't get on the school board!

Bill Rice I am getting lots of questions about the request to close portions of Evergreen and Seneca to create an open campus area between the High School and Bobcean. It did NOT pass the Council. I did hear a very good suggestion: Make it a policy to temporarily close this portion during athletic and band events, for safety. What do you think?

I think that is an excellent suggestion; I see no need to close off Seneca permanently. Closing that corner temporarily when there is expected to be a lot of foot traffic (games, events, etc.) around the school and parking lots makes a lot of sense.

Bill Rice Important read. Possible additional $120 per student cuts. Estimates that this brings most districts down to 2003 funding levels.

detnews.com
Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Senate Republican Leader Mike Bishop are locked in a high-stakes standoff over school aid and new revenue as Bishop warned her Tuesday against vetoing parts of the final six budget bills.

Bill Rice Just a reminder--Meet the Candidate Night is NOT tonight. It has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, October 27, 2009, 6:00 p.m. at the Flat Rock Community Building (Old Flat Rock High School, 2nd Floor).
