Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership

Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership
“Forging Ahead” will focus on new ways of succeeding in an economy that has had a debilitating effect on small businesses, the backbone of New York State's economy. A networking breakfast will be followed by a panel discussion among small-business and entrepreneurship experts, and a series of breakout sessions on ways... of developing business plans, accessing capital and financing, human resources management and Web 2.0 marketing tools.

The Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship will present a report on the state of entrepreneurship in New York. This critical report provides a comparison of key measures of entrepreneurial activity between New York State and the United States and provides recommendations towards reversing the urgent situation portrayed. The panel will be moderated by Brian Tracey, Online Editor, Crain’s New York Business.

Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Looks like Birch Coffee is open for business - best of luck to the proprietors of this fine establishment!

Perhaps Henry James described it best in The Great Good Place, his short story about a harried writer who dreams of a simple yet special spot to get away from life’s grueling demands and regain a little peace of mind. Where do you go to escape the fast-paced anonymous city life? Exactly. We also happened to notice a s...hortage of welcoming neighborhood coffee shops. You know, the kind where you can chat with familiar faces, stash your chipped Guatemalan ceramic coffee mug or borrow a book in exchange for the one you just finished. So, we opened our own in the Flatiron District’s bohemian Gershwin Hotel and called it Birch. We like the planet, and, well, most of its inhabitants. We also like to know where our food comes from. Birch Coffee specializes in Rainforest Alliance and bird-friendly coffees and teas, and serves only organic beers and wines, harvested locally when possible. We’re also proud to say that all of our food comes from local farmers and socially and environmentally conscious purveyors. Read More
