Unfortunately, donations will dwindle if something isn't done about current health care rules. The Tribune had an article recently about many donors later being denied insurance for "pre-existing" conditions (such as only having one kidney when the other is donated) and often donors have to pay out-of-pocket if complications develop since a donation is a voluntary or experimental procedure.

This is really good and proves that giving blood is a very important thing to do. It doesn't cost you a thing to save a life. I'm very proud that I have been donating since I was 18 years old and trust me that was mannnnny moons ago. It also shows that a moment of my time can give years to another.

I wish they would let us donate more often. I don't see why a for-profit plasma company will take 2 units a week but a charity will only take 1 unit every two weeks. Supposedly your body re-manufactures platelets in only a day or so. Would be nice to donate once a week, I'd do it especially now since I am unemployed and looking for something positive to do.

The gentleman who reached 100 gallons donates platelets, which you can donate every two weeks. So you reach higher gallon levels faster. :-)

Oh no, not you guys too! :) If I could make a suggestion, have a different tweet subscription for each type of blood so that, for example, when you're low on A+ platelets you can tweet that and only A+ donors will receive it.

I love FBS. I hate Twitter. IMO, Twitter encourages constant distraction and shorter attention spans than some people have already. I'm only on Facebook because it's become the pervasive Internet social network. My distaste notwithstanding, FBS on Twitter is inevitable, I suppose. How about starting a critical donor alert system here as well?
