Matt Stokes is collaborating primarily with younger townspeople to design a monument dedicated their burgeoning local music scene. Working with local bands, fans of hardcore and heavy metal music and local blacksmiths and metal workers, Matt will hold a forge-in festival at Frome Youth Centre on Saturday 12th and Sunda...y 13th September to create a sculpture that will be paraded through Frome Carnival.

Saturday features live music from 2pm from some of the best bands from Frome's energetic hardcore scene. bands include:

All Guns Blazing
Bear Fights Fire
Meier
Rejected Faith
& The Dead Life

This unique event mixes the forge-in structure used by blacksmiths to create a major piece of work live in front of the public with a one day all ages mini-festival of live music, accompanied by screen printing, customising t-shirts and skateboarding.

The blacksmiths’ and metalworkers’ communal manufacturing process will create the components of a structure designed by the bands and fans, realising a physical form for their ideas and bringing it together into one monument.

On completion, the resulting monument will be paraded through Frome’s streets as part of the Carnival procession on the 26th September, accompanied by people involved in the piece’s design/production, and the bands, musicians and fans from the local music scenes it represents - harking back to when statues left Frome’s Singers workshops in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
