Sheen Mayberry

Sheen Mayberry I'm enlisted in the Army National Guard under the Split-Option Program and I have already been to BCT. I am scheduled to attend AIT for Motor Transport Operator, but I would like to change my MOS to Civil Affairs Specialist or something similiar. How can I do this? I have no information on this since my recruiter is of...f-duty. If I were required to transfer to the Army Reserve, then I would.

You will need to transfer to the Army Reserve, where most of Civil Affairs and PSYOP is. I am a member of the 12/100th TASS Bn, which is one of the units that teaches the 37F/38B MOS reclass in the Reserves.

If you're already committed on a contract, you may have a hard time getting this accomplished. You'll need to talk to a recruiter, and have copies of your current paperwork... If it's viewed as in the army's best interest, it's possible. Then again, since your state has already paid for 1/2 of your training.. they may object to any changes.

U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) Barely three weeks on the ground and Soldiers with the 418th Civil Affairs Battalion came together to compete in Camp Lemonnier's Flag football team. The team overcame numerous hurdles to make it to the Championship Round where they almost the took the cup, losing in a hard fought game at the very end with seconds on the board. Well Done.

Lindsay Harrison Maybe someone here can answer a question for me...I'm a female medic soon to be headed home from a deployment. I want join a civil affairs unit as a medic, but from what I understand civil affairs medics are required to attend the SOCM course which is for males only. Is there anyway for a female medic to be part of a c...ivil affairs unit or is it possible to attend the SOCM course on a case by case basis??? It's a bit frustrating that as a female I cannot recieve advanced training my MOS....kind of stuck at the bottem. I'm very interested in civil affairs, but I love being medic so I really don't want to reclass. Thanks...

Females can go to SOCM. It is a Service problem, not USSOCOM. AFSOC put a very capable female SOF "helicopter" medic through the course several years ago. But you get the same unpleasant things done to you as a female as then men get - incl rectal exams by other (male) students in trauma lanes. Also, you do them too. She did well, no problems. All very professional. But hard PT.

I'm pretty sure I'd have no problems, rectals and all. LOL So what your saying is the Army doesn't send females but other services do??? Lame!

For those who don't know, the Randy Oler Memorial Operation Toy Drop is named for SFC Randy Oler, a USACAPOC(A) Soldier who started Toy Drop back in the late '90s and ran the show for years until he suddenly and tragically passed away in 2004.

The Tennessee native had joined the Army in 1979 as an Infantryman, spending time in Ranger and Special ... See MoreForces battalions throughout his career, and had deployed in support of Operations Desert Storm, Provide Comfort and Joint Endeavor. In 1995, he joined USACAPOC(A) to become a Civil Affairs specialist.

Oler's dream of incorporating Airborne operations, foreign military jumpmasters and local charities continues on to this day.

U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) I know most of the Toy Drop photos are in the Facebook album at this point, but the USACAPOC(A) Web page has been updated with those and a few more. More updates to come ... we're working on more thorough unit descriptions, and more subordinate unit commander bios. Anything else you'd all like to see on our site?
