Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals Another story about the extraordinary courage and loyalty of dogs. A young golden retriever saved a boy by throwing itself at an attacking cougar. The full story is amazing...

Angel leapt a full 1.5 metres above the ground, sailed over a lawn mower and intercepted a cougar mid-air, just as it was about to pounce on 11-year-old Austin Forman.

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals The blog is back for the new year, and today's subject is pet friendship. Not with us humans, but with each other. Isn't it great to see your pets become best friends?

www.stuff.co.nz
My two dogs had a roaring start to the new year by making two new friends. A couple of poodles they met on an evening walk this week have become (we hope) regular playmates. It's dizzying to watch all ...

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals Remember Jogi, the dog whose growing blindness was the subject of a blog a few months ago? Well, we have an update. Sad but uplifting. Check out Deborah's account on the blog now.

Earlier this year on the blog, Deborah Thomson of Christchurch told of her dog Jogi's failing eyesight and the worry and sadness it caused her. Here, Deborah gives an update on Jogi. Some of it will make you sad, but it's also uplifting.

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals Merrick the gentle cat came into the study this morning and greeted me with his usual mmm mmmm, but then almost shot across the room in shock. What was that coiled beast on the couch? He calmed down when he realised the length of curtain stretch-wire wasn't animate and posed no threat. Poor Merrick, not much ever upsets him...

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals All set for a holiday road trip with a pet onboard? I've just had my first long trip with our dogs, and it was draining but went well. Check out today's blog on an issue that almost every pet owner has to face -- pets and cars.

Right about now, some of you must be thinking about a long road trip in the company of at least one of your pets. Well, I've just made my very first long car trip with both dogs along for the ride. It was a journey that left us all drained but happy.

As a boy, I watched my mum extract what she called the "giblets" from the turkey she'd bought from the butcher a couple of days before Christmas. "The cat'll be glad of these," she said. ...

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals More comedy from Connor, the born clown. Last night he smelled something tasty in an empty eco-shopping bag and ended up tangled in the handles. He raced around the house with the bag hanging off him like a parachute he couldn't cut loose. I had to grab a photo before freeing him...

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals I blogged the other day about how I seem to be seeing a much bigger variety of birds around. Well, tonight we walked the dogs very close to the neighbourhood where I grew up, which was then full of sparrows and starlings. I was amazed to see a pair of parrots flitting around, nosing around the gravel on a park. Never s...aw such an exotic sight in the many years I lived there!

I reckon they are eastern rosellas, which a Nga Manu bird specialist once told me had migrated from Australia and colonised a few spots in the southern North Island, such as the Tararuas. Amazing to see them in the heart of suburbia. Do you ever see them in your neighbourhood?

Cheers, Nick B

Bizarre! I said to my partner this past weekend that I was sure that it was a rosella we could hear. Being Australian I am very familiar with the sound. This was up in Maupuia. Maybe I was right!

Four Legs Good - a blog about pets and animals Around the world, there are stories of dogs whose loyalty stretched on, long after their master was dead. Check out today's blog on those dogs who inspired their community.

www.stuff.co.nz
A shy black-and-white terrier lived on a busy city street for 15 years. Not in anyone's house, but near a street corner, sustained by food left by neighbours who dubbed her Harawene. For a decade and a half, the little stray was a familiar sight to anyone who drove or walked by. ...
