Amy Harvey CALL FOR ARTISTS
"Great Works From Small Beginnings - A Small Works Show"

My church "Woods Chapel Bible Fellowship" is conducting an art show during their Christmas Eve service. I am looking for artists to create a work, 8x10 finished size or smaller, to be silent auctioned that evening - the 24th of December. The theme ...is "The Love Of Christ". The idea is to get meaningful artwork displayed in homes, either as a gift or personal statement of faith. The works can be done in any medium - including sculpture and ceramics; the size is the only restriction. The proceeds of the show would go to the support of a Romanian missionary that would really be blessed by this donation. The deadline for delivery of the work would be Friday, December the 11th, so that the show could be hung that Saturday the 12th. This would give the work a few weeks exposure for viewing. You would receive a tax write-off for the donation.

Please respond if you are interested in participating in any way.

Dan Roché I had the good fortune of staying with the Schaeffer’s for a few months in ’69. L’Abri was an incredible place at that time. Os was doing some of the lectures, Udo was brilliant, and, just as Frank recounts, John was one of the kindest people you’d ever want to meet. Barry did a lot of the public speaking too. I met so...me great people there, and just located one of them after 40 years! In spite of the disrespect I think Frank shows toward his Dad and the work done at L’Abri, that small community changed the Evangelical world. When the History of Christianity is written hundreds of years from now, Francis Schaeffer and his work at L’Abri will be definitely mentioned.

Henry Patino There is none righteous, no not one! But, through our Great God even the smallest of men can change the course of history. He loves to use the weak to confound the mighty. For, when we are weak then His strength can shine through us. But, when we think our minds have become the measure of all things, we have taken the ...path of the Great Opposer. Even as we speak the time of testing is fast upon us. Judgment begins with the household of God. Prepare. Plant your seed in fertile ground, the earth of humility and a willing heart. Soon the sun will heat and scorch those who have fallen on rocky and shallow earth. The Mahdi shall come riding on Al Buraq, waving the black flag of Khurasan. He shall sit on his white steed with a bow in his hand. He shall conquer the whole world and trample it under his feet. He shall invade the Promised Land. But, he shall be broken and not by human hands. Are we ready?

Henry Patino How clever is the deception of the Enemy! The power of the deluding spirit shall indeed deceive even some of the elect. But in the end "those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightnes of the expanse of heaven and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever." The greatest harv...est of souls that ever was is here today. More people are alive in our planet than have existed in all the generations put together from the time of Firstfather. Upon our shoulders He has placed this awesome responsibility. It is a humbling thought. Will we truly seek the face of God? Will we humble our arrogance and pride? Will we learn to forgive as He has forgiven us? Will we study through the Holy Spirit or our own feeble minds?

Henry Patino Words are inadequate to describe what Schaeffer has done. He is an imperfect man, saved by grace, who sought with courage and intelligence to teach True Truth in a world that reveres the Lie. Bill Harris I read "Crazy for God," by his son, Frank. I really enjoyed as it portrayed the great philosopher and theologian as a man with faults like us all.

It sounds like Frank, though raised by his famous dad, is not sure what to really believe anymore. I can identify with that, as I approach 50. In my twenties, I was dogmatic... and so sure of what I believed.

I don't consider myself a man of god, or a man of great faith, but one who struggles to understand the mysteries of this life.

I can appreciate when Christian celebrities expose their own struggles with faith, and almost hate the elevation that religious factions, movements, and individuals give them. It seems many people are hoping to find someone who can help them believe the things that can't be seen, when these individuals like Schaeffer can't really understand them either, but step out in faith, even if they might be wrong.

Dear Bill, struggling to understand is the hallmark of those who truly seek truth. No person has the corner on wisdom or understanding, but I do believe that the Holy Spirit guides us into truth, when we humble ourselves before God and seek it. James 1:5 tells us this. I do believe in True Truth as Francis Schaeffer said. I do not follow men, I do ... See Morenot worship men, nor do I see fallen men as perfect heroes. But, as imperfect individuals, which through the grace of God take a stand against the lies of the Enemy of man, who tirelessly tries to discredit us in order to discredit the truth. Francis Schaeffer's failings in no way minimize his great victories in divulging truth to a relativistic culture. His prophetic warnings have been realized. The emergent church and the ecumenical movement has all but overshadowed the evangelical community. It is my belief that he who has no sin should cast the first stone. I learned that from a pretty relieble source. May God teach us more humility and forgiveness. Then and only then will we truly understand True Truth.

Thank you for your comment.

Have you read "Crazy for God." It really is a good read, along with "Portifino," which was a I guess a novel version of Frank Schaeffer's life with his parents.

I probably don't look at the Bible in the same way you do. I am very familiar with it, but certainly not an expert, but have difficulty basing my life around imperfect men who decided which books to put in there and which ones were not as inspired by the Holy Spirit as others.... See More

Along with my knowledge of the Bible, I understand that I am no scholar, theologian, or even an average intellectual.

I guess I am an average agnostic, who once was a dogmatic Christian.

It was easier to believe without questioning, but as Jesus said,"Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength."

I found I had to leave my mind behind to believe all that's written in the scriptures, (referring to the King James Version and all versions translated with similar philosophy)

I believe, God if he exists, is bigger than the Bible.

I am not an atheist,: really. I don't know what I believe anymore, and believe that the God I used to believe in understands.

I envy those who are not stuck in my quagmire.

Iain Duncan

Iain Duncan Hello everyone,
I discovered Schaeffer back in 1990, and after reading the Complete Works (twice) I still find myself re-reading the Trilogy every so often.
This was especially refreshing earlier this year after I had been spending time reading some of the 'emergent' authors such as Brian McLaren. Fran's writings remi...nded me that there is such a thing as 'true truth'.
My 18 year old daughter has also caught wind of Schaeffer and we have been sharing some thoughts.
