Gale River Motel & Cottages Last night, the Gale River had the privilege of hosting the Harlem Rockets, a comedy basketball team out of NYC that are in town to play the Bethlehem Bullets (the Profile High School teachers). What an absolutely class-act these guys are, they are as real and courteous off the court as they are funny and talented on the court.
Gale River Motel & Cottages SNOW...about a half-inch arrived this morning and a young guest at the Gale River enjoyed her first opportunity to play in the white stuff...Autumn colors are still clinging to the trees, but the temperatures and groundcover are indicative of things to come...and all too soon!
Gale River Motel & Cottages The colors are radiant this year and holding on pretty well, I think in part to the warmer than usual night time temperatures. Outstanding foliage in on cue for this Columbus Day weekend and may hold over even to next weekend as well.
Gale River Motel & Cottages First observable snowfall on the summits down to about 2500-feet on north-facing slopes of Lafayette, but just a little dusting on the upper slopes of Cannon.
Gale River Motel & Cottages First frost of the season last night...trees are just starting to turn, but the cold snap last night is sure to move things along - temp's are expected to rise again to summer levels (70-80's) in the upcoming week. Peak foliage expected to arrive as usual last week of September finishing around Columbus Day....let the foliage season begin.
Gale River Motel & Cottages Sad to say that the pool and outdoor hot tub have closed for the season, with daytime temperatures in the 60's and not a soul having been to the pool for the last few days, it has come the time to put the pool to bed for the season. Good news is that the indoor hot tub is fired up and cranking just fine.
Gale River Motel & Cottages Summer is drawing to a close with this weekend's Labor Day celebration. I've heard forecasts that because of all the rain we received in July, this foliage season is expected to be the best in years. The last two weeks in September and the first two weeks of October are "THE" best times to be up here in the mountains with the higher elevations and swampy areas turning on the colors first.

Gale River Motel & Cottages Under mostly sunny skies today the solar hot water system hit 187-degrees in the panels and 150-degrees in the storage tanks. Lovin' this free solar hot water and pleased to be doing a little bit to reduce CO2 emissions. - Go Green!!!
