COURSE ON THE HISTORY OF THE LOYALISTS IN THE MARITIMES AND UPPER CANADA TO BE OFFERED AT UNB WINTER 2010 HISTORY 3403: THE LOYALISTS DR BONNIE HUSKINS...

The York Sunbury Museum
Most of our local men, who joined the Army in WWII, went into either the North Shore Regiment or the Carleton-York Regiment and went on to fight in Europe. Come to the Heritage Center and hear Dr. Marc Milner tell about our brave soldiers accomplishments at the D-Day Landing; and on through France.
In addition to being ...successful on the Beach, they fought and won battles against an equal German foe, while under tremendous counter-artillery fire and other dire circumstances.
You may have seen the famous film clip that shows the first Allied Troops landing on D-Day, with the troops leaving the Light Landing Ship (with the beach scene showing a European style house on the hill at the top of the beach.) Dr. Milner will explain why the D-Day landing in the film clip may be our regiment and not the Ontario Regiment that has received all the accolades over the years.
We would especially like to see interested veterans come and join Ron Stafford of Marysville who was with the Field Ambulance Unit that served the North Shore Regiment and served on the front lines with the men through the whole offensive. Dave Dickson, who was with the North Nova Regiment that landed on D-Day also hopes to attend.
Dr. Milner is a UNB professor and the Director of the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society and he has recently had a book published on the North Shore Regiment’s battle at Carpiquet France. Also, he regularly has his WWII articles published in the Canadian Legion Magazine.
Dr. Milner’s presentations are noted for being interesting and well supported with interesting photos, maps and other material that make it easy to follow the presented stories.
This event is jointly sponsored by the Marysville Heritage Committee, The Fredericton North Heritage Association, and the York-Sunbury Historical Society.
