Free The River Park Hello Philly film fans! Please join the page and group of the upcoming feature doc "The Barrel of a Gun," produced by Tara Nurin. Subject of the upcoming doc is nothing short of one of the most controversial crimes in modern history: Did Mumia Abu-Jamal kill Officer Daniel Faulkner? Big announcement and trailer coming soon. Join group, too!

This feature-length documentary offers the most comprehensive examination to date of the murder of white Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner and the conviction of black journalist-turned-cab-driver Mumia Abu-Jamal. The case has ignited world-wide controversy, with Abu-Jamal’s arrest and trial becoming a cause c...élèbre for celebrities, foreign dignitaries and human rights campaigners. For Faulkner supporters, however, the controversy serves as smoke and mirrors to obscure the truth behind a heinous crime. Unlike any other film treatment to date -- most notably pro-Jamal documentaries “In Prison My Whole Life” and “A Case for Reasonable Doubt” – “The Barrel of a Gun” benefits from extensive access to principles on all sides of the debate as well as exhaustively researched and one-of-a-kind archival documentation to present an alternative view of the crime and the historical events that led up to and may have caused it. The film was shot in Philadelphia; Paris, France; San Francisco; Oakland; Los Angeles and several other American cities and includes on-camera interviews with luminaries such as widow Maureen Faulkner; Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell; prosecutor Joe McGill; Philadelphia district attorney Lynne Abraham; Abu-Jamal attorney Robert Bryan; celebrities Ed Asner, Mike Farrell, Danny Glover and Sister Helen Prejean; former Philadelphia police commissioner Sylvester Johnson; Pam Africa, head of The International Concerned Friends and Family of Mumia Abu-Jamal and widow of MOVE founder John Africa; author David Horowitz and radio talk show host Michael Smerconish.

Free The River Park As spring beckons, enjoy a program of river stories all from the banks of the Schuylkill and Wissahickon. Hooked: Philly’s Urban Anglers (2008, 14 min), co-directed by Shannon Kane Meddock, Mike Attie and Andrew Schwalm, is an intimate, funny and touching glimpse into the little known world of urban fishing. When a goo...d day fishing has come and gone, Philadelphia's waterways yield a bounty far more valuable than the fish themselves. Free the River Park (2008, 15 min) by Evolve Strategies chronicles the protracted fight against CSX Railroad’s effort to block the community access to the Schuylkill River. The doc inspires other groups on how to successfully wage grassroots organizing campaigns to improve and protect their communities. Community organizers from Manayunk reveal their “Precious Place” in Manayunk Canal: Past, Present and Future (2009, 10 min). Ann Tegnell and Sharon Mullally’s Knee Deep (2004, 30 min) follows volunteers from the Center in the Park Senior Environment Corps of Germantown who have all taken on the task of sampling and testing water of regional creeks leaving a generation of long-term data they have collected is the joyful legacy of education and commitment to the environment.
