The Hills’ gripping live acts and recorded work have variously been described as swamp, punk, country-rock, blues, folk; the diverse textures of the band’s sound ranges from mournful heart-heavy ballads to screeching, visceral jungle punk.

Having... toured Australia extensively the band has also started venturing abroad and toured the US and Canada and will be in Europe in the 2010 summer.

The multi-award-winning group has spent the best part of 2009 completing their 3rd album, ‘Man, You Should Explode’ released and toured nationally in September 2009 thru Torn and Frayed/Shock to rave reviews around the country…

“Man, these guys are so good they could genuinely explode.” Patrick Emery, Mess and Noise

"Man, You Should Explode"is whimsy, urgency, despair and intensity wrapped up in one ball. One of the best Oz albums of 2009 for sure.” The Barman, I-94 Bar

“A sound that is quintessentially Australian and that The Kill Devil Hills have made their own.” Tim Burke, Inpress Melbourne

South West Soul have been bringing their passion for soul music to the Fly by Night Musicians Club since January 2006 and with it’s fantastic friendly atmosphere, great dance floor & sound system young & old alike are returning time after time captivated by this music phenomenon. Come and see for yourself & experience... a night of music that will capture the nostalgia of a scene that has spanned 40 years and 12000 miles.

South West Souls’ four resident DJ’s, TONY ‘TBONE’, ‘SUZIE CUE’, BARRY ‘MR MOTOWN’ and ‘DJ’ DENNY play original vinyl that will have you dancing your socks off all night with an across the board mix of Motown, Northern Soul & Modern Soul.

WHAT IS MOTOWN? This is black American soul music - the “chart’ topping, easy listening sounds by groups such as The Temptations, Dianna Ross and the Supremes, The Four Tops, Edwin Starr etc. With its roots in Detroit City (Motor Town… hence Motown) which you know so well but… there is more to soul music than that…

WHAT IS NORTHERN SOUL? The best dance music in the world…..? This is a music and dance scene that emerged from the British mod scene from the sounds imported into the UK from America and played in the clubs like the Golden Torch, Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca in the north of England in the late 1960’s. the scene came hand in hand with a dance movement which was usually athletic featuring spins, flips & backdrops, very synonymous with Break dancing and some ardent soulies (who are now in their 50’s) are still able to pull off a few of these moves today!

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOTOWN AND NORTHERN SOUL? Northern Soul still has the same 4x4 beat of Motown but it can have a more stomping, raw, pounding beat which you just have to dance to on the mid-tempo. Tear your heart out voices, which can make your hair stand on end and bring tears to the eyes of grown men. These are obscure rare tunes on tiny labels by mostly unheard of artists trying to become the next “Motown” star. They are the sounds which Motown producer Berry Gordy didn’t think would make it…!

Northern Soul is HUGE all over the world – Come and be a part of it!

Hold on to your party hats, as this January sees the annual Boys Of Summer tour return for its fifth and most impressive year yet! With previous line-ups boasting an eclectic collection of acts such as Comeback Kid, I Killed The Prom Queen, Set Your Goals, Misery Signals, Evergreen Terrace and Parkway Drive, we are pro...ud to announce that the 2010 edition will be spearheaded by Buffalo bruisers Every Time I Die (USA)!

Far from being overnight sensations, Every Time I Die are now entering their twelfth year as a band. Backed by a new label – the iconic Epitaph Records - the quintets renewed sense of urgency has resulted in their most aggressive and musically complex outing yet, the stunning New Junk Aesthetic. Combining the tongue in cheek five-pieces trademark riffing and lyrical wit with a hostile and destructive attitude not seen since the groups formative years, New Junk Aesthetic is sure to top both fans and critic’s top 10 lists for 2009.

Rounding up the line up are 50 Lions, Trap Them, & Mary Jane Kelly.

With tickets for the Macbeth Boys Of Summer 2010 trek set to fly out the door, this is one tour you don’t want to sleep on!

Western Australian own Blue Shaddy are now well known around the country as being one of the most energetic live bands on offer. With their Roots come Hillbilly sound Blue Shaddy always connect with their audience.

Singer / songwriter Jim (Neil) McClelland, his brother Belly (harmonica) and Sandra (bass guitarist and wi...fe of (Jim) were born and bred in WA's remote wheat belt – a harshly beautiful environment complete with dust and flies, but with not a lot else to do but focus on their shared love of music. When you listen to Blue Shaddy's songs you get a strong sense of where these three come from and it is very apparent that their heart still lies in their country roots.

Arunachala (known simply as Arun) Satgunasingam grew up in Kuala Lumpur, immersed in the sights and sounds of cultural and religious family events, where he would soak up the South Indian rhythms and street beats in a childhood that led him to end up studying at the Conservatorium of music in Perth.

A chance meeting with Jim at a local music store brought Blue Shaddy together as they are today, infusing world beats and contemporary percussion with the existing 'wheat belt' Shaddy sound. With their captivating on-stage raw chemistry, Blue Shaddy have been raising more than a little interest lately with Festival insiders, gaining invitations to play at most major music Festivals on offer such as the Toyota Gympie Music Muster QLD, Both the East Coast and West Coast Blues and Roots Festival, The Great Southern Blues and Rockabillie Festival, Narooma, Woodford Folk Festival QLD, Blues at Broadbeach Festival QLD, The Kimberley Moon Festival W.A, Bridgetown Blues Festival W.A, and many more.

Blue Shaddy are currently in the pre production stage of recording for their 5th Album due for release early 2010.

Civil Society is proud to announce the highly anticipated debut Australian tour of the sublime Grizzly Bear. These much lauded gentlemen from Brooklyn arrive for their first Australian visit this December with performances at the Falls, Sunset Sounds and Southbound Festivals, as well as two very special evenings one at... the Corner Hotel in Melbourne and the other at the Fly By Night in Perth.

The release of their 2009 studio album Veckatimest has propelled these young men to the forefront of modern music stunning fans and critics with their haunting experimental folk rock sound. When Two Weeks appeared on blogs it was clear that Grizzly Bear would become the most talked about act of 2009.

While the critics clambered over each other with praise for the album – Veckatimest became album of the week on Triple J, ABC Radio National, FBI, 2SER, 3RRR, 3D Radio, 6RTR, Drum Media, Rave, Time Off, MX and MAG - praise also came from the likes of Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes calling it “The best record of the 00’s” and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead declaring them “My favorite band in the whole world”.

Grizzly Bear had its humble beginnings in a small apartment in Brooklyn as a project of tape recordings by Edward Droste that was only ever intended to be heard by his closest friends. However the project soon evolved when Droste began to collaborate with Christopher Bear and it was this incarnation that was to realise Grizzly Bear’s first album Horns of Plenty. By the end of 2005 friends Daniel Rossen and Chris Taylor had also joined the pair and the full band recorded the critically acclaimed album Yellow House in 2006 with Pitchfork calling it “one of the year’s best records”

Grizzly Bear have played alongside the likes of Radiohead, TV on the Radio, Feist, Paul Simons and The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, they’ve mesmerized audiences at festival such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, Roskilde and Lola. Now, having captivated audiences around the globe, the wait for Australia is finally over as Grizzly Bear make their debut Australian performance this December.
