Hello friends! It's your buddies from Friendly Fire Recordings in scenic Brooklyn, NY.
It's been a while since we've sent out a news update, but we have a *lot* of rad news to share with you, including new releases, new videos, new tour dates, and a new signing! so with no further ado...
PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND "15 TO 2...0/YOU'LL DISAPPEAR REMIXES" OUT NOW, "15 TO 20" VIDEO, BOWERY BALLROOM HEADLINING SHOW!
The Phenomenal Handclap Band, fresh on the heels of their self-titled debut release, are back with a new, bank heist-themed video for the song "15 to 20", as well as a sizable remix album for which we've recruited a veritable who's-who of cosmic disco producers. The remix album includes crackling contributions from Prins Thomas, Horse Meat Disco, the Glimmers, David E Sugar, and many more, as well as a brand-new, previously unreleased psychedelic-tinged new song from PHB themselves, entitled "Pretty Mask".
Check out the new video for "15 to 20", directed by the talented Moh Azima, here:

And here's the excellent Prins Thomas Diskomiks of "15 to 20", which appeared recently on Pitchfork:

The Phenomenal Handclap Band is also playing their first ever *headlining* show at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on Friday December 11, with hotly-tipped buzz band Javelin and audio/visual party DJs Eclectic Method opening (and a full-on winter solstice theme!). This is truly going to be a night to remember, and that is a promise. Get tickets here:

The band will be playing a series of dates in California starting in January - more news on that front soon!
DANISH BAND OH NO ONO SIGNS TO FRIENDLY FIRE RECORDINGS, ANNOUNCES NYC SHOWS!
We are proud to share the news that we've just signed the incredible Danish band Oh No Ono. Their brilliant, otherworldy psychedelic pop captured our attention in quick fashion, and we are proud to announce that we have just released the first single from their upcoming US debut album "Eggs", entitled "Swim", in digital form. The Pitchfork-approved video for "Swim", directed by Adam Hashemi, is a dark, beautifully-shot (and slightly unsettling) masterpiece and can be seen here:
http://friendlyfirerecordings.com/Bands/ OhNoOno/swim.html
Oh No Ono is also playing two shows in New York City (their first ever!) in January:
January 27: Mercury Lounge (w/ Bear in Heaven)
January 28: Union Hall
Having seen Oh No Ono perform live, we can tell you with absolute 100% certainty that their live show is mesmerizing - come see this band before they start playing larger venues!
Friendly Fire is releasing "Eggs" throughout North & South America on January 26, 2010 (our friends from Morningside Records and the Leaf Label are putting it out in Denmark and the rest of Europe). This a truly remarkable band and we are absolutely thrilled to have them on our roster! For now, the "Swim" single, in addition to being part of iTunes "Indie Spotlight" this week, is also available (bundled with the video) to purchase on iTunes, eMusic, and other digital retailers for super cheap:

WINDMILL "EPCOT STARFIELDS" VINYL NOW AVAILABLE, PLUS NEW REMIX!
Windmill's recently-released opus "Epcot Starfields" is one of the more spectacularly sprawling and ambitious records in recent memory. A childhood trip to Florida's EPCOT Center provided the inspiration for Matthew Dillon's second album - a record about "embracing the perfect moments in life and recognizing the sadness of everything passing in the moment of our death." It was recorded in solitude, in a tiny bedroom with the lights dimmed, in a process Dillon describes as being "on the boundaries of madness," but sounds like it comes from a much a bigger, uncharted place, a fact that is reflected in the album's sweeping strings, cascading pianos, lush production, and Dillon's unmistakably unique vocal warble.
Check out the second single from the album, "Ellen Save Our Energy", here:

And check out the luscious remix that Finnish post-rockers the Gentlemen Losers did for Windmill's track "Big Boom":

"Epcot Starfields" is now available on vinyl (with a free download code for a digital version of the album, natch) exclusively on Friendly Fire's webstore:

MISCELLANY
* Asobi Seksu's lovely new acoustic covers album, "Rewolf", is out now on Polyvinyl Records, and it showcases the band's normally reverb-drenched songs in a whole new, stripped-down light. If you haven't heard the originals, perhaps now is the time to check out their critically-acclaimed 2006 album "Citrus", now hailed as a classic of contemporary shoegaze. We are down to very few copies of the 180-gram gatefold LP (once they're gone, they're gone!) and have recently issued a limited-edition CD version of the album with neon-yellow, citrus-colored packaging. Both are available here:

* One good turn deserves another: San Antonio's remix king Ernest Gonzales did a remix for Faunts a while back, so Faunts have returned the favor by doing a dope remix of his track "Self Awakening". Check out the remix here - EG is a good apple and one of the best new beatmakers we've heard this year, and the Faunts remix presents a unique take on his equally unique style.
http://terrorbird.alphapupserver.com/onl ine/EG-02_Self_Awakening_%28Faunts_Remix %29.mp3
* If you're a hockey fan (or a video game fan, or just a fan of good music in general) pick up a copy of the new NHL 2K10 video game - Faunts are on the soundtrack along with MGMT, Phoenix, Friendly Fires (no relation), Lupe Fiasco, and more.
* The Whitsundays, the Old Soul, and Elk City are all in the studio putting the finishing touches on their new albums - from what we've heard thus far, all three of these albums are going to be KILLER.
* Thanks as always for supporting independent music!
