Friends of Eddie & Martha Adcock Benefit Show
Because extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary events...
You may have heard about banjo great and bluegrass patriarch Eddie Adcock's history-making brain surgery in 2008, while playing his banjo in order to guide the doctors to the area which would correct his inc...apacitating right hand tremors, but the story of the Adcocks' loss of normal workload--and therefore income-- didn't stop there, even with the success of the ground-breaking surgery. Actually, the story didn't exactly begin there, either.
In 2004, Eddie found himself dealing with a series of health issues interrupting his usually very busy schedule of music and sound engineering. From that time he has undergone heart surgery, has endured complications with Emphysema, followed by a diagnosis of Diabetes, and most recently underwent the technologically advanced three-part surgery termed Deep Brain Stimulation, which was highly-publicized, including a story on Good Morning America, and widely-viewed video of the surgery on YouTube.
Because of these health obstacles, the Adcocks were forced to take a much lighter work schedule over the last few years. Additionally, because of his very strong work ethic, Eddie would not commit to play festivals in the season following such a unique surgery as DBS, without knowing what the results of that surgery would be. However, having now recovered physically, the effects of the Adcock's absence in the music scene are proving very crippling financially, as many promoters assumed from the duo's absence that Eddie must have retired completely. This is not the case! While they have ceased live sound engineering, Eddie and Martha remain very dedicated to making music. This is their livelihood.
They have also been very open and giving with their talent and reputation, for example, every December in recent years organizing the Benefit for the Homeless, also held at the Station Inn. Plans are already underway to continue the tradition which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The Friends of Eddie & Martha Adcock are planning an event to help these wonderful people through a rough patch in their lives. It's an opportunity to give back and to be part of a very extraordinary case of people helping people. We hope you will consider helping in some way--come to the event, contribute your talent, services, or monetarily, and spread the word and invite whomever you can--this will all be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If you are unable to attend the show, but would like to contribute, please send your check payable to Martha Adcock, P.O. Box 219, Lebanon, TN 37088. For further information, please go to www.facebook.com and search on Friends of Eddie & Martha Adcock, or call 615 790 0100.
