Nnimmo Bassey is Chair of Friends of the Earth International and Executive Director of Friends of the Earth Nigeria. He was recently recently named by TIME Magazine as a 2009 “Hero of the Environment.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Major oil producers in Nigeria are currently carrying out the illegal and harmful practice of “gas flarin...g”. Gas flares are open-air fires that burn the natural gas that is released when oil is extracted from the ground. The practice endangers human health, harms local ecosystems, emits large amounts of greenhouse gases, wastes vast quantities of natural gas, and is against Nigerian law.

EVENT ORGANISERS

Organised by Friends of the Earth Scotland and Amnesty International Scotland.
