Hi Wayne,
Found your website. My name is Tina. I believe I went to New Paltz with you. Just before I was at New Paltz I lived in the Bay Area studying sarode with Ali Akbar Khan. i last saw you, I believe, playing the drums for my close friend Audrey's senior recital. I recall that the music being played was a jazzy... Claude Bolling piece. Are you this person? My email is amoon@zianet.com

Gamelan Sekar Jaya and Destiny Arts perform
Tjak Box and other works
Dec 4th & 5th, 8pm
Gamelan Sekar Jaya and Destiny Arts welcome you to the world premiere of TJAK BOX—a new work that brings together hip-hop and urban dance, Balinese dance, and live gamelan music. Lead artists Emiko Saraswati Susilo (Gamelan Sekar Jaya...) and Rashidi Omari Byrd (Destiny Arts) find their inspiration in the story of Kunti and Karna from the Mahabarata, the great Hindu epic. Through movement, spoken word, song, gamelan and urban music, the artists explore the connections between this ancient tale and the life of youth in Oakland—here, today.
Each group will also perform works from its company repertoire.

Musician/composer I Made Arnawa, from Bali’s National Institute of the Arts; and dancer Emiko Saraswati Susilo, from the renowned group Çudamani; will direct forty performe...rs in a special concert featuring two kinds of Balinese gamelan---the rare orchestra of giant bamboo marimbas, gamelan jegog, and the ceremonial four-tone bronze orchestra, gamelan angklung. Sekar Jaya's dancers will perform three pieces, ranging from traditional masked dance (topeng) and ceremonial temple dance, to the newly created SUBAK, with choreography by I Made Moja, commissioned by and premiered at the 2009 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
