Chamber to help redevelop downtown Gander

NEW LOOK COMING - A town-owned parking lot along Airport Boulevard in Gander received a fresh coat of pavement in June. The Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce hopes to fill a full-time executive director position soon to work with businesses in the square, and other parts of downtown Gander, to redevelop the area.The Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce wants to make Gander look a little more like Corner Brook. That's not to say the chamber wants to bring a paper mill to the airport town, but rather it wants to follow the lead of the west coast city's downtown business association.

YOUR CALL ? Gander?s Matt Flynn looks as if had beaten the throw to first, however he was called out during gold-medal action against the host Corner Brook Barons at the annual Mary Tavenor Peewee Baseball Tournament last weekend.
The Gander Peewee Pilots had the top showing of the three local teams to participate in the Mary Tavenor Memorial Tournament in Corner Brook last weekend.

ON TV - Hare Bay native Tara Oram is no stranger to television appearances after her success on Canadian Idol last year. She was back on television last night with the debut of her own show, The Tara Diaries, on CMT.Tara Oram has come along way in two years. In 2006, following a split from her band and an end to a "horrible" personal relationship, she returned home to Hare Bay to regroup for a short visit before returning to the mainland.
