Hands Down Monkey was inspired by our son, Gavin. Gavin is blind, and has Leber's Congenital Amaurosis. He is the first instance in our family with vision loss and he has sparked our passion to bring attention to Braille Literacy.
Gavin's Groupies October is Blindness Awareness Month. Take care of those peepers! Every 7 minutes someone in the US goes blind. Keep yours and your child's eyes safe from eye injuries, and get a regular eye exam for you AND your child. Kids don't often have a point of reference, and don't know how they should be seeing and acclima...te if there is a problem without even knowing. Awareness is the first step towards prevention!

Gavin's Groupies We didn't win the Chili Cook off...bummer. :( We DID get sign ups for VisionWalk 2010 and some donations! I was able to talk to a lot of people and a few even with Retinitis Pigmentosa who were unaware of the Foundation. Thanks to our friends and family for helping on such a hot day!

Gavin's Groupies Chino Firemen's Muster and Chili Cook Off, this Saturday at Chino Fairgrounds. Come if you dare, and try our "Fire in the Hole" chili. Gavin's Groupies will be promoting VisionWalk 2010. Bring the Maalox, we're not sure how it's gonna turn out!
Gavin's Groupies Big news in the Clinical Trials world for LCA. After one year of treatment, vision continues to improve on individuals. Three more young adults were sucessfully treated at Univ of Pennsylvania, and were funded by the Foundation Fighting Blindness (a total of 20 have regained sight). Another validation of Gavin's Gro...upies, and the impact we make in raising money! We are making a difference!

Chino National Little League put on a golf tournament for Gavin on Sept. 11.
We had over 144 golfers participate and had a great turnout. The money raised is going to Gavin's trust fund, but we are also personally going to make a donation to the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Thank you to everyone who participated a...nd joined us in our effort to raise awareness.
