Generational Insight Had a super conversation with a guy last night here in NYC after my presentation and he offered this: Our society no longer has "right of passage" that transitions youth from adolescence to adulthood. The last one we had was the draft that ended post-Vietnam. It is a missing element in becoming adults. Thoughts?

Generational Insight Prepping for an interview with InsideCounsel magazine on matriculating the Millennials in to the workplace. Worth noting - the more education required to do a job, the more there is a strict "pay your dues" attitude coming from those that are in the profession - lawyers, drs., and attorneys have it the most.

Generational Insight I'm unsure what to think of this or even if it has any accuracy at all. Odd, but interesting. And no motive on why this even exists: The Baby Boomer Death Counter: www.boomerdeathcounter.com

Generational Insight Spending the morning with Drs from The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG). They enjoyed a program I did for them last month and wanted something longer focusing on old docs vs. new docs and the generations as patients. Lots of good research on this and I'm excited to for the morning's program.

Generational Insight Fidelity Investments has taken to the Generational Selling concept. They realize that the decision making process of the different ages of buyers is dramatically different. When an investment advisor sits around a kitchen table he (majority are men) has a Boomer to sell, a Millennial who might inherit money and is of...ten consulting on decisions for the Boomer's parents - lots of generations and lots of differences.

Generational Insight Spent the morning with accounting firm partners discussing retention and work strategies with them. They're a "paid your dues" profession and finding that message isn't resonating well with their newest associates who want something different than the partner track. So I told them the truth about these things and som...e didn't like it. Some swallowed it reluctantly, though, and they'll find some success.

Generational Insight In Louisville today working with appliance store owners on how to sell their products to the different generations of consumes. #1 for all generations- energy efficiency. After that Gen X looks for features to help w/ child-rearing and Millennials look for color & style. Gen X'ers, the research shows, spends more on... luxury items than previous generations at the same age - I didn't know that but it makes sense.

i seem to think i am a gen x and agree - i always want the luxury items and seem to always pick out the most expensive item in the store. we like the Target, they now have a campaign that speaks to the value. We tend not to be walmart shoppers.

you know i am a trained "expert" of sorts now (told i am the only one in the south, who knows if that ... See Moreis true) on color - how it is selected by us, what our preferences are, how color changes and what it means psychologically. so if you ever need a speaker KP is willing to do it!

GE has thrown in a washer and drying for my program today and Lisa, my wife, has selected the champagne colored models. What does this say that first, that GE makes a champagne colored washer and dryer, and second that my wife prefers that color to white, black, or red?

I'd love to hear your presentation on colors. I need a reason and a venue. Hmmm. I have an idea - i've submitted a proposal to a direct marketing company and I may have an opening for us - let me ruminate for a bit...
