Ronnie

Ronnie Icefishing has been good to me this winter, but I can not wait to rip some lips on open water. XR10 Rapala clown is an extremely effective way to catch bass in northern Indiana. What are some other early spring time techniques that work for you? Thanks JP & Facebook fellow fisherman. All tips welcome!

Shawna JP I noticed your note on taking your son out fishing. You are so right about setting the right tone for the little ones. I just wanted to share a pic of one of mine. My 3 yr old Micah. He is a riot. Tight Lines!

Northeast Indiana is locked up, but not enough to ice fish, even the rivers in this area are chunky with ice. :(

Ronnie Great show on wake baits! I crank with a 7'6 G Loomis crankbiat series CBR903 medium with mod-fast action, 8-17 lb. line. I know that G. Loomis recommends 8-17 lb. but I want to know what you thought if I move up lb. test will there be a disadvantage. I use 10 lb fluro Seaguar. i want to move up to 15 lb fluro Seaguar,... will this affect the perfomance of the crankbaits I throw? I throw bait that are 1/4-1/2, rarely larger than that? Any advice is appreciated. Thanx JP!

Hi Ronnie,
The only thing that will happen by moving higher in pound test is that your baits will not run as deep. The heavier line just doesn't cut though the water as well. Other than that the rod can definitely handle 15 pound test and if you're looking to throw wake baits it can help keep the bait closer to the surface.

The only time I would ... See Moreworry is if you are looking to get the rated depth out of the crankbait you're throwing... keep in mind that 90% of the baits are rated to those depths on 10 pound line... action will be very similar even with the heavier line if the baits have a split ring which most do.

Getting School'd with JP DeRose Erie was @#$% canned due to winds... couldn't get the boat off the trailer at Port Weller so we headed to the Hammer and caught some nice Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass... tough bite but persistence paid off! Charles and I went 12 for 14 with a high teen limit! Gotta love cold water bassin!

Ronnie Hey JP. Alot of guys are using silver buddys, here in northern Indiana. Is there any tips or alternatives to get an edge against some tough tourny guys? Thanks. Water temp 43-45f
Air temp 40-50f

What are you guys fishing? Structure wise? Other baits like the Silver Buddy are made by Reef Runner called the Cicada or you can try a flat wider spoon that will offer a lot of flash and resistance yet give off a slower fall... Personally I would also try drop shot around the same areas... especially when the fish are off a little.
