I believe I saw your work here in Brewer at the Brewer Auditorium yesterday! I too admired your work. Colors were striking and caught my eye right away! I've just started working with PC in the last year or so and am from Dedham, Me.

Maine Polymer Arts Guild Last November's exhibition, Noah's Ark Revisited: Part II, was again a "hit of the season" and many requests have come in to repeat the theme. Therefore, this year in November we will have Noah's Ark Revisited: Part III.

So, if you have work that represents (literally or with "artistic license") or perhaps is just... inspired by the thought of creatures that fly, swim, slither, lumber, stand tall, carry their houses, live in both trees and ponds, reign unmolested (except for us humans), or simply curl up with us at night and forgive all of our sins -- then the Pearson Legacy Gallery would like to invite you to be included in a special show of art in all media that features creatures (except humans unless attended by a dormouse, leopard, crocodile, etc).

If you are interested in being included in this show (November 12th opening and continuing until November 29th with the exception of Thanksgiving Day), please let me know by October 30th so that publicity and the registration book can be organized in a timely fashion -- Carolyn Hecker (348-2535, cahecker@midmaine.com) And, If you know of people whose work would be a "must" for this show, please pass on the information.

Here are the Guidelines:

SUBMISSIONS: The exhibition is open to all artists, working in any medium. Each artist may submit up to three pieces. If we have an overabundance of submissions, we may have to cull out a few but that hasn't been a problem so far given the different sizes and shapes of entries. Each piece submitted must have an identification sheet attached to it that includes the title of the piece, year created, retail price, materials, and artist’s name, address, telephone number and email address. Work must be ready for display. 2-D work needs picture wire - no sawtooth hangers, string or frames that have tabletop mountings. Both 2-D and 3-D pieces should include display instructions if the piece requires special installation. The work must be for sale and has to have been created in the past five years. There is no size limit for this show.

DELIVERY: Please deliver work to the Pearson Legacy Gallery - 13 Dow Road, Deer Isle - on Monday, November 9th between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If you need to make other arrangements, please call me (348-2535). If work is to be shipped (to arrive by November 9th), send it to: Carolyn A . Hecker, Ronald Hayes Pearson, Inc., 29 Old Ferry Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627. (in using UPS, this address is commercial, not residential)

PICK UP OF WORK: The exhibition ends on Sunday, November 29th, at 4:00 p.m. Work may be picked up at that time (until 6:00 p.m.) or at a time scheduled in advance by appointment (call me, Carolyn - 348-2535).

FEES: There are no fees required for exhibiting in any of the off-season shows. If work is shipped to the gallery and needs to be shipped back, please include a check for the return amount, made payable to the Pearson Legacy Gallery.

SALE OF EXHIBITION WORK: The commission on sale of any work in the exhibition is 60% for artists and 40% for the gallery. Payment for work sold during the show will be sent to the artist within two weeks of the end of the exhibition. If, for some reason, there is a problem with the purchaser payment, the artist will be notified immediately and a revised payment schedule will be arranged. If the artist is contacted after the show closes by a buyer wishing to purchase a piece he or she saw while the piece was on exhibit at the Pearson Legacy Gallery, it is suggested that the artist remit a 15% commission to the gallery.

PROMOTION: All efforts will be made to publicize the exhibit in local newspapers, radio, the Maine Arts Commission, TV, etc., etc. If I have good digital images to work with, that will help a lot. Furthermore, information will be sent via email to hundreds of people, an inordinate number of organizations, and anywhere else I can direct this information in an effort to attract visitors to the exhibit. Keep in mind, though, that it is Late Fall in Maine and we’re not exactly tripping down 57th Street in NYC. Help out - send information about this fun exhibit to friends and relatives and anyone else you think might enjoy visiting the show.

ADDITIONAL: Visitors to the gallery often like to know something about the artists who are exhibiting their work. Having a resume or other personal promotional information available frequently results in a future sale or commission. The gallery will have an Artist’s Book on display so I encourage you to include with your work a current resume and/or other literature that can better inform a potential buyer as to who exactly you are and why you do what you do. Don’t be shy - promote yourself - this is business.

The gallery currently has the regular liability insurance but right now cannot be responsible for insuring work on consignment in case, for example, a deranged person hates cats and takes out that aversion by destroying a beautiful print of a sleeping tiger or sets fire to the building or we have an earthquake or whatever. Please check with your insurance company about your coverage and the possibility of obtaining a “rider” to cover the time your work is at the gallery if it isn‘t already included. I might add that, as far as I know, no work has been “removed without permission” from the main gallery space since it was first occupied 10+ years ago. And, Mother Nature so far has been kind.

QUESTIONS: If you have any questions about the exhibition or the gallery, please call me (Carolyn Hecker) at 348-2535 or email cahecker@midmaine.com.

I look forward to seeing your work in the gallery!!

Maine Polymer Arts Guild MUD and Work of the Hand
YIKES! Studio in 2 Shows this month
I am currently in two shows this month. "Work of the Hand" at CMCA
in Rockport and "Mud" at Pearson Legacy Gallery in Deer Isle. I will
be attending both openings and perhaps I will see you there!

Work of the Hand- Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA)
Event ...Date: 10 October 2009 ends 19-October 09
Each year, approximately 50 artists present their fine contemporary crafts
in this highly-anticipated juried show and sale. This year, Work of the
Hand will be celebrating its 20th year as one of Maine's most outstanding
crafts shows, and will run from October 10 through 18, 2009. Fine crafts
artists from Maine and New England will offer work of exceptional quality
and unique design, including jewelry, furniture, glass, lighting, pottery,
clothing, fiber and leather works for sale, order, or commission.

Work of the Hand opens Friday, October 9 with a Collectors' Preview
Evening from 5 to 8 pm. Guests can meet the artists and will have an
opportunity to purchase exceptional work or commission a custom piece
as they enjoy the reception. Admission is $15. Artists will be present on
certain days as the show continues, October 10 through 18, 10 am to
5 pm daily, admission $5.

Transformations: Mainstreaming Mud
Opening Reception Thurs Oct 8, 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Pearson Legacy Gallery,
13 Dow Rd., Deer Isle. Over 40 artists use clay: some as a material for an elegant vase, bowl or platter or perhaps for a sculptural wall or free-standing piece. Some capture the work of others who use clay in a photograph or a painting. And many interpret clay and mud as they exist in nature. It's really
a wonderful landscape! The exhibit is open Thursdays through Sundays,
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., ending on October 25th. For information on the exhibition, call: 348- 2535. After October 12th, call: 348-6848. Website soon.
