Glendon Association
The Glendon Association is being honored by NECTAR, a Santa Barbara collaborative of artists and educators who come together to address such issues as war, suicide and violence, homelessness, child abuse, alternative medicine, sexuality, youth issues and more.
On Saturday November 21st, National Suicide Survivors Day, ...NECTAR will present an evening of live music, dance, theater, spoken word and more. NECTAR will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to support the The Glendon Association's work in our community to help in the prevention of suicide and violence.
NECTAR’s monthly events elevate awareness, education and sensitivity so that people walk away feeling, not only inspired, but more adequately prepared to be of service in the community.
NECTAR was created by the dancer Cybil Gilbertson in 2009, as a response to her Aunt Barbara's suicide (2007). She created and performed a dance theater piece titled "Skinny Long Legs," which she created with her father to support their grieving process. After several performances of "Skinny," it became evident that people were touched by the piece, not only because of Cybil's story, but because it struck a personal chord in them. Through events produced by NECTAR, it is Cybil’s goal to contribute to the well-being of our community by bringing people together to explore social issues and also honor and support the work of local nonprofits.
