Goods 4 Good 40% of children in Malawi dropout of school by the 4th grade. Many do so because they can't afford basic school necessities such as pens, notepads and a school uniform.

Please join G4G in our efforts to help keep these children in school. Something as small as a new school uniform makes a big difference in their lives. Just $1=1 uniform.

Goods 4 Good Have excess sports equipment? Put it to good use! http://blog.goods4good.org/2009/10/29/help-spread-the-word/

Soccer is the favorite sport of the children we serve, yet more often than not, they have no sports equipment to play with. When they don’t have a proper soccer ball, they either play with a makeshift ball made from bundled plastic bags or don’t play at all.

Goods 4 Good What we're reading: Acumen Fund Founder and CEO, Jacqueline Novogratz's The Blue Sweater http://www.facebook.com/thebluesweater?ref=ts

The Blue Sweater is the inspiring personal memoir of a woman who has spent her life on a quest to understand global poverty and to find powerful new ways of tackling it. From her first stumbling efforts as a young idealist venturing forth in Africa to the creation of th...e trailblazing organization she runs today, Jacqueline Novogratz brings us a series of insightful stories and unforgettable characters -- from women dancing in a Nairobi slum, to unwed mothers starting a bakery, to courageous survivors of the Rwandan genocide, to entrepreneurs building services for the poor against impossible odds. She shows, in ways both hilarious and heartbreaking, how traditional charity often fails, but how a new form of philanthropic investing called "patient capital" can help make people self-sufficient and change millions of lives. More than just an auto-biography or a how-to guide to tackling poverty, this book challenges us to grant dignity to the poor and to rethink our engagement with the world. The Blue Sweater at once is a deeply personal coming-of-age story of a young idealist determined to change the world, and a call to action to all those concerned with growing inequality around the globe. Novogratz relates her experiences over two decades, first in Africa and later in India and Pakistan. Her story is a true testament to the indomitable quality of the human spirit and the power of hope and optimism to create real change. Jacqueline Novogratz is the founder and CEO of Acumen Fund, a nonprofit venture capital firm that invests in entrepreneurs bringing affordable and sustainable healthcare, water, energy and housing to those without access in South Asia and East Africa. She travels frequently and currently resides in New York City.

Goods 4 Good Thank you to Trisha Beckel, who donated her birthday to G4G by asking her friends to bring school supplies instead of presents to her party. In the end, she collected a wonderful assortment of pens, colored pencils, scissors, glue, notebooks and markers. We'll make sure that these items are put to good use! Happy Birthday Trisha!
