Grace D.E. Ong

Grace [Doen En] Ong, 19, is a classically trained pianist and composer from Kuala Lumpur.

Originally a film major at NYU, Grace began taking up side projects scoring senior and grad films as early as freshman year. As of April 2009 she has worked on over 10 film scores.

Citing Yoko Kanno and Hans Zimmer as her greatest inspirations, Grace tends to rely very heavily on minimalistic themes and classical orchestral sounds "because that's the way to make a film score sound epic, when you have a massive live orchestra behind the music."

Grace has been involved in her high school marching band and choir, the Orkes Praise Malaysia, and the Emmanuel Methodist Church choir and church band. She currently attends Berklee College of Music and studies piano with Russ Hoffmann, Ross Ramsay and Josh Rosen.

Outside of music, she indulges in avant garde photography, comic illustrations, fashion design, poetry and blogging. She also enjoys reading about astrophysics and fighter aircraft.
