Servant's Community Church This morning the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America voted to adopt the Belhar Confession as a fourth confessional standard of the RCA. This is an amazing and powerful statement of belief that we have used a few times in worship at Servant's.

If you are a part of SCC I would encourage you to check out our new confession here

In the year 2000, the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America invited its members and congregations to a decade of study and reflection on the Belhar Confession, a confession of the Christian church in South Africa written out of the struggle against apartheid in the 1980s. ...

I was glad to see this go through! It has been interesting to watch as the RCA went though the decision making process - it sure takes a long time (and rightly so I suppose).

(my response on the Servants Church blog to this posting)

Jeff and the rest of the community,

It was a very good sermon, but I couldn't fully listen because I was so caught up in my own thoughts. Can't wait to listen to it online to see what I missed. I thank the church for the things they shared and the things I heard the next couple of days that showed me that in answer to some of the questions Jeff asks above, YES YES YES the wilderness experiences are just part of the journey to be embraced. ... See More

One thing that popped into my mind as I read this blog entry is that we need to be cleaving, seeking, listening to God in these experiences. A big part of cleaving, seeking, listening to God is done with the church. Our, at least my tendency is to withdraw at these wilderness points. For me that is what comes naturally. We need to resist that temptation. That is not embracing our wilderness and continuing on with trust in God. That is giving in to our humanness.

(continued)

I need the church to help me continue to thrive in the wilderness. It is a tricky walk, a step here, a step there, stopping to look around, turning around and considering running to our comfort zones.

Thanks church for showing up each week on Sunday. I know alot of things going on in your lives that are difficult. Knowing the trials you face and seeing your face on Sunday encourage me in my wilderness. Let's keep keeping it real people so others will know they are not alone.

Life, life and more life. It is the story of God's word going out and bearing fruit. It is the picture of God's "let there be" and all creations response. It is the gift of glory embodied in every sunrise, apple blossom and nursing infant. This weekend Jen and I received a refresher course on life...
