Pet Assistance Network  From Grayson County Humane Society/ SPCA: It is a sad time for Grayson. Due to the recent intakes of cats and not many going out, it may be time to euthanize the ones who trusted us to find them a home. There is absolutely no more room at the shelter. Please if you are looking to adopt, foster, rescue, sponsor, please ...consider doing so with a Grayson cat. We don't want to see any of the cats we've grown to love be put down just because nobody came for them.
These are the current cats and kittens that are under the care of Grayson Humane Society. I will keep it as current as possible.

Thoreau- Male Featured Kitty 11/21/09
Hi, my name is Thoreau, a black DSH male kitty about three and a half years old. Hmmm...perhaps I was named after Henry David Thoreau, a great American philosopher, naturalist and thinker. Well, that got me thinking about how handsome, sweet and what great fun I am. Hey, I have an i...dea, why don't I ask my foster mom to give me an endorsement.
"Mr. Thoreau is one of the most loving and affectionate cats I've ever seen. The kittens love him, and Thoreau would be great to have as a kitten minder. He also thinks he's a dog, and he follows you around reaching up to rub on your hand (but he will never jump on you). And my wonderful Thoreau is "a rubber cat". You can carry him, and bend him, and he will come on your bed and you can hug him like a stuffed toy. Thoreau never needs to be forced, and the more contact the better. And this sweet boy will never punish you if you quit loving on him. Thoreau also gets along with dogs".
Well, that kind of made me blush, but its all true ya know, so please arrange a meet at your soonest opportunity. My neuter is now ancient history. Oh, the shelter is very crowded (and we all have limited time), so I hope you're ready for some black kitty love. See you soon (and don't think about it too much please)! Love, Thoreau

Big O- Male
Hi, my name is Big O, a big 'ol orange and white boy tabby kittycat (short coat), about two years old (in Nov.09). I'm what you'd call a survivor, having survived all the dangers and perils of the life of a feral boy. I have my share of battle scars and my ears have almost disappeared from going too many rou...nds with my feral brothers and those cold, frosty nights of a Leitchfield winter. Even though I'm kind of young, my spirit is tired and my body fatigued from the constant struggle for survival. Nope, I'm not quite ready to get scratched behind my ear stubs yet, and I may never will be. That doesn't mean even an old street warrior like me doesn't appreciate a kind word, a soft bed and a bit of wet food, and these things are as close to ecstasy as I'm ever likely to get. But coming here into a small cage in a crowded shelter may be my last stand, because it seems society has closed off its heart to a boy like me. Only the volunteers care, but that won't be enough to save me if someone doesn't step up to sponsor me, and perhaps offer me a warm barn where I can find the peace and security denied to me so far in my young life. I'll be eternally grateful, and the vermin in your barn won't stand a chance! I'll be neutered and vetted, of course, so do you have a situation for me? Please call today, and get me out of this cubicle!

Anya My rescue pulled Petula (now Tula) from your shelter this past Spring in the hope to find her a forever home...and it's now clear, that she has become dog #4 in our family. When she is not looking for squirrels, Tula can often be found sun bathing on the deck. Rough life! We still put the word out that her shelter budd...y and fellow Coonie, Roscoe, still needs a home...we are keeping our fingers & paws crossed he has a home for the holidays.

Pawley- Male
Hi, my name is Pawley, a boy tabby kittycat (short coat) about two years old. I
came into the shelter in a big 'ol trap, and humph that was humiliating. What a
way to treat a big loverboy like me. Have you checked out my video yet? This is
my first speaking role here in a Leitchfield movie (now known as Pawley...wood, get
it, ha, ha), and I'm destined to be a major star. In my movie you can see me
talkin' and writhin' with pleasure as I'm getting those great neck roll massages
from the volunteer. Help get me royalties by watching my movie. The only burr on
my butt is this movie set is crowded with scores of pussycat extras, and I've
got to get me a home fast! (And, alas, even a big star like me has limited time).
Okay, here's my checklist of "must haves" if you wish to adopt a star (and who
wouldn't): (1)prompt and frequent feedings of superior kibble, (2)daily
neck roll massages and headrubs (perhaps a tailbone rub as well), (3) superior
sleeping quarters (your bed will do just fine, thank you), and last but not
least (4) lots of photo ops and film shoots. You got all that? Good, Send your
limo around right away. (First one here gets an autographed photo with a
Pawleyprint siggy - get it)? Love to all, Pawley (star)

Grayson County Humane Society/ SPCA Please remember to vote at the link provided for Grayson. Any bit of money helps! The annual Chow Down with the Hounds was a big success!!! It raised some much needed money but much more is needed to help with the vet bill. Also, we are still in dire need for rescues, fosters or adoptions for our cats! There is no more... room at the "inn". It may be a bad week if the decision has to be made to euthanize some of them.
