Great Southern California ShakeOut This thank-you is a "Big One" and goes out to everyone who participated in the Great Southern California ShakeOut! Don't forget to store more water and food and come up with a family plan. Get Ready, Be Prepared, Empower Yourself! Hopefully the smoke from the fires has cleared for all of you - please take care.

Great Southern California ShakeOut You'll feel left out if you forget - so remember to "drop, cover and hold on" with everyone else at 10:00 a.m. - tell everyone you know!

Great Southern California ShakeOut Red shaking is bad, that's "violent to extreme" ground motion. I'll post a legend for the maps on the photos section. Also, for the dogs and other pets, this is a well-recognized issue since Katrina and the emergency managers have plans for this nowadays. At our meetings, we have heard their plans and there are people at the county and city levels of government who you can look up in local directories to seek answers that are specific to where you live.

Great Southern California ShakeOut Hi Victor, short answer is 'yes' - we are working with the news media and developing a 90-second audio recording that is to be played on PA systems, on laptop & desktop computers' speakers, etc. We need everyone's help -- check on www.shakeout.org -- you can pick up the audio clip there in a few more days I think.

Great Southern California ShakeOut This past Monday, USGS Pasadena participated in a region-wide HAM radio test in preparation for ShakeOut to test communications. Today, we also tested various satellite phone systems. None of the tests went perfectly - there's always room for improvement. How will you communicate after the Big One? Really? Have a plan. Do something about it now.
