Drawing Form is the final exhibition in a trilogy that has explored a range of artistic practices that are in some manner Drawn from Life. Bringing together the work of thirteen artists, the show explores the boundaries of form itself, ranging from representations of the human body to formal artistic investigations inspired by the artists' immediate environment. Encompassing sculpture, video, collage, photography and pencil on paper, these artists have diverse backgrounds and practices. What is common is a shared engagement with the physical world, from daily news stories to the landscape around them, both natural and man-made.

Green Cardamom Green Cardamom presents Not Made for Each Other a solo exhibition of works by Ahmed Ali
Manganhar in collaboration with the VM Art Gallery, Karachi.

VM Art Gallery, Karachi. 3 November – 14 November 2009
Daily 10.30 am – 7.30 pm (Sundays, closed)

Inspired by the techniques of film billboard painters, and with a wi...nk to ideas of life imitating art, Ahmed Ali Manganhar’s new series of works explores the formal techniques of the film billboard genre. Through witty manipulations of colour and texture he exploits the media to startling effect, critiquing what he calls ‘the central myth’ in cinema, of romantic love between a man and a woman, and claiming particular moments in film as moments from his own life.

Green Cardamom The word 'mashq' means practice, exercise, lesson or drill in both Urdu and Farsi. This exhibition explores how different forms of repetition found in everyday cultural practices –sewing patterns, architectural design and text – seep into artistic practice. Informed by artists working in the context of Islamic cultur...es, the exhibition investigates an often overlooked route to geometric abstraction and minimalism.
