Humane Society of Westmoreland County Sundae is going to her "forever" home today. Her new dad takes her to Twin Lakes for walks and home overnight. She is the sweetest dog. She went to the Cash Bash and Whisker Walk with us. We will miss her. She gives the Pitbull stigma a good reason to not believe all of the bad things. Her new owner loves her, bu...t had a scheduling problem for getting a dog. We worked it out just for her. Bye Sundae.

Humane Society of Westmoreland County Did you know that you can help us raise funds for our animals by giving us your aluminum recycling? This includes soda cans, beer cans, and some cat food cans. We can accept any type of aluminum. There is a large container at the end of our drive. Help us help homeless animals and start saving now.

Humane Society of Westmoreland County I would like a discussion on stray cats. There are literally thousands in Westmoreland County. Both friendly and feral. No shelter can possibly take all of these cats. We get calls for people wanting to surrender 20 or more cats at a time, not to mention Humane Cases where we actually take that many. Then on the f...lip side we only adopt 1-3 a week. Cats do not do well when crowding occurs. Our facility has an air changer (every 20 minutes), a blue light to kill mold and bacteria, and new AC. Even with this technology, when we crowd they pass around illness. I think municipalities have to step up to the plate and help with this situation. The problem starts with owners that move and leave their cats or don't spay/neuter. We offer low cost spay/neuter five days of the week plus special events. This still doesn't solve the problem. Comments please. Currently we have approximately 135 cats/kittens and a feral colony of 25.

Humane Society of Westmoreland County The cash bash Saturday night was lots of fun. We took kittens, puppies and a shelter favorite, Sundae.
