Groundwood Books Mariko Tamaki interviewed by McGill Daily.

Source: www.mcgilldaily.com
"Skim has the opposite message of something like Romeo and Juliet; it’s a book about survival. Just because everything is not going your way doesn’t mean you have to give up and kill yourself. If you best friend decides she hates you and if you fall in love with someone you’re not supposed to, it’s ...

Betsy Fraser Congratulations to Mariko Tamaki -- not only for her Governor General's Award nomination but also because it is a measure of a truly excellent book to be nominated for three of YALSA's booklists (as SKIM has been, for Best Books for Young Adults, Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers and Great Graphic Novels for Teens.)

One Inch Tall
BY
Shel Silverstein

If you were only one inch tall, you'd ride a worm to school.
The teardrop of a crying ant would be your swimming pool.
A crumb of cake would be a feast
And last you seven days at least,
A flea would be a frightening beast
If you were one inch tall.

If you were only one inch tall, you'd walk beneath the door,
And it would take about a month to get down to the store.
A bit of fluff would be your bed,
You'd swing upon a spider's thread,
And wear a thimble on your head
If you were one inch tall.

You'd surf across the kitchen sink upon a stick of gum.
You couldn't hug your mama, you'd just have to hug her thumb.
You'd run from people's feet in fright,
To move a pen would take all night,
(This poem took fourteen years to write--
'Cause I'm just one inch tall).

Patricia Storms

Patricia Storms I recall reading a note about the launch for Cary Fagan's new book, 'Mr. Karp's Last Glass', but I can't remember where and when it's being held. Anyone know? Thanks!
