I completely agree with Andy. Just because someone has a title of "veteran," "professor," and especially, "faculty," does not make him/her any more qualified or competent to weild a deadly weapon than anyone else. Take it from me, I'm a teacher and an administrator. I KNOW firsthand.

So you know firsthand that someone who has served our country and has more familiarity with a weapon than an average citizen is not qualified to carry concealed with a CHL? You know firsthand that professors with a CHL aren't more competent to carry concealed than one without? Please elaborate

Andy, Conservatives falsely hoped that the Republican majority would vote for reform in favor of gun rights, but that never happened. These people are just as disgruntled with the current Republican leadership as they are with the Democratic leadership. It would be wise to not group these protesters, who are Libertarians, with Neo-Conservatives.

It's just that the mainstream media doesn't really take notice (And Bush never advocated for the renewing of another semi-automatic rifle ban). Organizations like OpenCarry.org hold organized protests in every open-carry state that has a chapter. This is symbolic speech, nothing more. An actual assassination attempt on the current POTUS would actually be more detrimental to gun rights than helpful.

Now, obviously states like California and New York have many other problems such as organized crime, the War on Drugs, and a large number of people who live below the poverty line. I'm just suggesting that we try to take on those problems first before we try to dismantle the U.S Constitution.

I say "acceptable" because in many countries with almost total gun prohibition there is still gun crime present along with a substantial amount of violent crime. You will never be able to completely rid us of gun crime. There's got to be a line drawn in terms of the cost-benefit ratio.

Now to some gun control advocates, it seems like there is always great benefit and no cost to additional legislation. It doesn't cost gun control advocates anything because they don't own guns, and stricter gun control inevitably means less dangerous people with guns, even if it only prevents 1 person from committing a crime.

The problem with this... Read More mindset is that it is bred from the lack of communication between gun control advocates and gun-rights advocates. For every story of kids being victims of gun violence, there are examples of law-abiding, responsible gun owners using a firearm for self-defense. For every criminal stricter legislation supposedly stops from buying a gun, 80 million gun owners are stripped a little more of what is considered a fundamental right. Until each side realizes the truth about the toll caused by stricter (or looser) legislation on each other, you'll just get no-compromise polarization.

Before anyone calls me a redneck, I'm a moderate on gun control.

One more thing, the main issue we gun owners have with you cause is that so much of what you advocate is based on a flawed interpretation of the social contract theory.

"Society" or the state cannot provide a good (immediate personal security) that individuals can provide for themselves.

Why should individuals abdicate that responsibility when the state cannot provide it?
