My family is highly musical. My grandfather used to tour around the states in a quartet. My grandmother played the piano and organ for many church services. Commencing to play the piano at age 5, my dad majored in piano performance at the University of Northern Colorado and won several state competitions in classical p...iano. He also played in church services and continues to play today. I began singing in middle school and loved it. I didn't discover my passion for jazz, however, until high school. My high school music teacher was the first to introduce me to scat singing in my audition for choir placement. In that audition, I uncovered a hidden ability for scat singing and I fell in love instantly. I sang in a jazz ensemble as a junior and in an a cappella group as a senior. I took a handful of lessons and won a few awards. These last couple years is when my music has really began to take off. I sang jazz music for a community benefit as well as for the annual Holiday Feast for the homeless in our area held at my church every year. This last year I had the opportunity to lead the band by myself. More recently, I have begun to sing in our local mic nights and music collaboration nights. Soon I will be singing at specific locations in the Redding area. I finally came to terms with my deep desire to play music. This is the only thing that fills my heart with joy and this is all I want to do. I feel God's pleasure when I sing.
