How do expect this government agency be paid for? Do you realize that the un-employment rate in MS is far more than 10%. Which taxes that are taken from income pay for all government run agencies. Public schools are just one of those agencies. If we have learned anything about debt, it should be that you cannot spend money you do not have. MS state... See More or all the states for that matter are no different. Even the government is going to have to tighten its belt. If you have much less or no income explain how you pay for things if you all have a better idea? Instead of gripping about it suggest how to cut some other programs or anothe solution. Balanced check book is the goal, just like in every household. The government does not have a secret stash and the Federal government is running on a $12 trillion debt they are broke too which means we are all broke.

Gov. Barbour, I am VERY worried about this current WH administration. I hope all the Governors have dusted off the 10th amendment and given it a couple of serious talks. I am afraid the purpose is to bankrupt the U.S. I hope all people in the U.S. start protesting VERY LOUDLY!!!!

You know everyone wants solutions, as long as they don't impose on them particularly...The bigger universities are supporting themselves but when you've got a Jackson State or MVS down there losing money hand over fist, something has to be done. If MSU and Ole Miss were losing money I'd have no problem advocating a merger in that case. Everyone must be willing to be realistic in there cuts must be made. This is a tough time in history and we must all share the inconvenience.

I support the proposal, although I know it will never fly. It's strange the city of Houston, Texas has more people than the entire state of Mississippi, but they can make do with one school board and consolidate their resources. We need to cut the admin cost and get rid of some of these county and city redundant positions. Let's start to run this thing like a business and cut some of the overlap and waste.

I strongly oppose the proposal to merge MVSU & ASU into JSU and any of MS schools. It represents separate but unequal education and adequate funding....Does Brown vs. Board of Education or the Ayer's case ring a bell?!!!!

Merging these universities will NOT affect the school's ability to educate the kids. Its time we stop this 'protectionist at all cost' mentality that has caused much of the education debacle in the first place. We can't spend money hand over fist just to make a few constituents feel loved....Its time we make reasonable decisions that will save us from further calamity.
