The Marquee Club

Well this is the final run... the last few shows are upon us for soon the Marquee will be closing its doors!! :(.. The Marquee as we know it/knew it has been an amazing place to meet, greet and watch some of the best talent this country has to offer.

Sadly though there will be a small gap after this weekend's shows as ...those who currently own the club have decided it’s not worth the weight and have decided to close up shop.

NO WORRIES... Someone decided to close up, BUT someone else has decided it should re-open! The small closure will be small indeed as the Marquee will be reopening its door early in April under new management and a new name... THE PARAGON THEATER and VICTORY LOUNGE.

The details will be rolling in soon, but as of now things are looking great. There will be little revamps, a sweet cafe, a smaller same level venue, the same huge main room... It’s all in the works and soon we’ll be letting you all know the scoop!!!

As for the last few shows..

This friday we have IN-FLIGHT SAFETY'S CD release with Boxer The Horse and Dog Day! Its only $10 at ther door!! Down in Hell's Kitchen for a suiting last show is IRON GIANT, Hellacaust, Cuban Assasins, and more..!

Then on Staurday its the Marquee's grand finale as The Band's famous LAST WALT...Z is re-incarnated on stage with the help of some great local singers and players! Tickets for this one are kinda flying so if you want to come and celebrate/reminisce then you might want to grab some ticks in advance.. !!! ( www.ticketpro.ca )

[I SKRATCH BASTID I]

So you live in Halifax and we'd like to assume you know ALL about our local acclaimed DJ legend Skratch Bastid? But just in case you don't, let us remedy this..

Bastid's a born and raised Haligonian who got the traditional Hali start-off.. a teenager, countless hours in the basement, creating and learning to DJ (and Skratch, we're so happy you did!). He rose thru the ranks of the local DJ scene and quickly became a competition hero winning countless DMC championships on the Halifax stage. In 2003/2004 he was the Skribble Jam DJ Battle champ, the runner up in the Canadian DMC championships in 2004 and 2005, and is now also considered a critically acclaimed Mixtape DJ!

The Bastid dropped his first album "Taking Care of Business" in 2005 on his own First Things First label with rappers John Smith and Pip Skid. Wetting his hands in the production game, Bastid produced BUCK 65's album 'Situation' on Warner Music in 2007, and now when you don't see him solo odds are he's on tour as the DJ for BUCK 65's live act! Sharing stages with the likes of Nas, Jedi Mind Tricks, Grandmaster Flash, Dj Jazzy Jeff, Dj Cash Money, Ludacris, Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys), Little Brother, and The Tragically Hip (to name a few) only adds the the list of achievements of this home town stage-master.

This guy's all over the pond.. Canada coast to coast, the US all over and into Europe! Ain't no band wagon here.. the world's watchin' and the world's lovin' it! You just might want to tag along on..!!

After a whirlwind 2008, marked by the critically acclaimed release of his sophomore album Afterparty Babies, over 100 shows across North America and Europe - including stops at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, V-Fest and Roskilde, Cadence Weapon aka Roland Pemberton aka Rollie the youngster Producer/Songwriter/Performer from Edmonton is back to spread the electro-hype across Canada.

Cadence is bringing the magic home to headline his first ever Canadian Tour, September 25 - October 18. 13 Canadian cities, including Halifax on Oct 16th, can expect the Cadence Weapon rap power as they will be jamming the blazers from Breaking Kayfabe and Afterparty Babies at full volume. Since the release of Afterparty Babies in March through Upper Class Recordings (Canada), Epitaph Records/Anti- (USA) and Big Dada Recordings/Ninja Tune (Europe), Cadence Weapon has yet to rest - he's been touring non-stop, sharing stages with the likes of Public Enemy, Santogold, Roots Manuva, and Crystal Castles, playing major music festivals such as Glastonbury and Lollapalooza, legendary clubs like London UK's Fabric and Barcelona's Razzmatazz, and he's still found time to continue blasting out the freshest music around.

Cadence has also collaborated this summer on tracks with Freq Nasty, Simian Mobile Disco and Drop The Lime, remixed the new Roots Manuva single "Buff Nuff", and has recorded a brand new mixtape called Separation Anxiety that will be available exclusively for the upcoming Canadian Tour!!
