Are you planning to divulge this knowledge in books? Or just through teaching?

The late GM Myung, has published either in text or video, a great deal of it. I have it written in 2 languages, I haven't decided in what manner to disseminate yet though. I almost want to reference what I have to the existing collection of books and video tapes - that would be ideal, but I worked with the GM over 15 years in publishing his 6 ... See Morebooks and video series that goes up to 32 tapes so you can imagine the time requirements. The FB group will be the first to know how I decide to share it.

This was one of the most horrendous depiction of HKD I have ever seen. It looks like the guys found some hole in the wall school and I flinched the whole time thinking you have to be kidding me. It was truly embarrassing and a real detriment to HKD. On the contrary, the show on Krav Magra was excellent but you could have gotten that times 10. ... See MoreThey should have worked with ROK Marines / SF who generally practice "tuk gong mu sul". GM Myung used to say to me, "if it sounds weird, it is usually copied from HKD". The kicks shown by mostly high school kids were mediocre, techniques demonstrated did no justice to the art. Truly embarrassing.

What they showed wasn't close to being "out to hurt someone". I'll stop before I puke thinking about that episode.

Not really, I have seen and trained with masters and instructors that make those kids look like amateurs. They were genuine and portrayed the kindness and heart of the Korean people, but as far as portrayal of HKD, it was horrendous. Check out any of GM Kwang Sik Myung's videos. I have lots of stuff on VHS, once I figure out how to get it onto the PC, will load them up. It was an outrage and embarrassing.

You are kidding me. Who are these young guys "sparring"? He looks around late 40s+. They should have put up the Fight Quest guys with ROK Marines, or just some good instructors that are a dime a dozen in Seoul.

When they went to Philippines to study Kali, they had a guy from the marines work and demonstrate with them. Try youtube search on ROK... See More Marines or Korean SF and you'll get a taste of what they do. EVERY ex military I've talked to / worked with, have all said the same thing, "never mess with the ROK Marines". I will say that in Viet Nam, they weren't by nature "monsters". I had relatives who were sent over, and take it for what it is worth, but they told me that when they saw their comrades butchered, the only way to deal with it was to become even more brutal. And not to get into a political debate, SK forces were not fighting with their hands tied.

1987 sounds about right. I have this on VHS. Compare this to what they showed on Fight Quest and you can see the lack of quality that junior students showed. Most of the empty hand techniques performed in group are pre 1st dan. The techniques done one on one are generally post 1st dan, including advance punch and kick defenses. Two person and ... See Moreone handed techniques are 6th and 7th dan. The kicks in this video are primarily basic single kicks. Overall, a very nice collection of techniques produced for KBS presentation (Korean Broadcasting Service) which is comparable to an ABC. The narrator is describing the principles of HKD including using the opponent's power against himself. Thanks to whoever dug this one up! I forgot I had it in my box of VHS tapes.
