I met Barbara Kingsolver last night when she was in town for an interview at the Writers Bloc about her new book, The Lacuna. She was so lovely and kind--I nearly burst into tears. If you haven't heard her speak, you must. She's a vivacious woman--smart and funny. The surprise of the night came when she suddenly in...troduced me to the audience as she talked about creating the Bellwether Prize and asked the crowd to congratulate me with applause. It was such an amazing moment. As we filed out of the auditorium at the end, people approached me to congratulate me. It was almost surreal. What an amazing night. What an amazing woman. I can't thank her enough. I hope the book makes her proud. I have a lot to live up to!Read More

Heidi Durrow Very seriously the best thing about the writer thing is meeting REAL writers! Last night, I ate dinner with Ron Carlson (The Signal), sat next to Lisa See (Shanghai Girls), and then Elizabeth Kostova (The Historian) introduced herself to ME because she had heard about me and my work! Dude! It was so cooool!

"The Girl Who Fell From the Sky
is that rare thing: a post-postmodern novel with heart that weaves a
circle of stories about race and self-discovery into a tense and
sometimes terrifying whole." Ms. Magazine

Heidi Durrow Publishers Weekly says this about The Girl Who Fell From the Sky: "Taut prose, a controversial conclusion and the thoughtful reflection on racism and racial identity resonate without treading into political or even overtly specific agenda waters, as the story succeeds as both a modern coming-of-age and relevant social commentary."

Heidi Durrow “Like a good mystery, this book builds to the startling revelation. [O]ne can’t help but be drawn in by these characters and by the novel’s exploration of race and identity.” Library Journal on The Girl Who Fell From the Sky

Heidi Durrow "[A] penetratingly observed story; [Durrow] examines familiar issues of racial identity & racism with a subtle & unflinching eye." Kirkus Reviews on The Girl Who Fell From the Sky
