Herald Journal Publishing will be reporting that the K-9 dog for the Howard Lake Police Dept. was euthanized after the city's dog catcher failed to recognize Felony and then brought him to a humane society that also failed to recognize him. Five days later they euthanized him, which is their standard policy. A report will follow.

I hope the investigation leads to some answers.

1. Did the handler or anyone from the department contact the dog catcher to see if they had seen the missing dog?

2. Did the handler or anyone from the department contact the Humane Society to see if anyone had brought in their missing dog? ... Read More

3. Since the dog had been missing approximately 2 weeks, exactly when did the got end up at the Humane Society? Was it 2 weeks ago and they held it 5 days and another week goes by before anyone finally checks with the Humane Society?

4. Where were the identifying tags that he was reportedly wearing?

5. Why wasn't this dog microchiped? Don't officers all wear some type of identifying badge? This one can't talk, so he would have serveral reasons of needing one.

If my dog went missing I would check with the dog catcher, Humane Society and would put up missing posters to help find him. I also would put an ad in the newspaper. What exactly was done to find Felony once he escaped his kennel? This sounds soooo preventable. I hope a change is put into place so that this can never happen again.

I was the one who found the dog 2 weeks ago. I love dogs, and have 3 of my own. He was very skinny, so I gave him a big bowl of dog food. I called the dog catcher to come and pick him up, because he had a collar on, but no tags. So I figured if it was my dog, I would love for someone to turn him in so he didn't get hit by a car, and I couldn't keep... Read More him at my house, because he did grawl at me, so I didn't trust him to be around my dogs. If he would bite one of my chihuahuas they would be dead in a second. So I must have found him around the same day he dissapeared. I had no idea that the police were missing their dog until 2 weeks later when it was in the paper. If they would have notified the dog catcher and the humane society right away, they would have gotten the dog back.
