ROOT Dog Training Sad news and a STRONG reminder how important it is to crate your dogs in the car. I just heard from a student who had a small grey poodle mix dog named Rosie. Sadly the owner and dog were in a rollover car accident and Rosie was killed. Please be safe - both you and your dogs. If you can't crate your dog please rest...rain them some way. Do it Rosie's memory! Thanks! Sara

There was a great B.C. comic the other day, making a joke about a certain TV trainer that uses a lot of punishment. Check it out, it's worth a good chuckle.

Not sure who watches The Big Bang Theory on CBS but oh my this weeks episode was PRICELESS! BF Skinner & Thorndike both were mentioned. The roommate of one guy was using chocolate to "train" using positive reinforcement the other guy's girlfriend. The one guy does not like the girlfriend and thought that smoothing... out her "edges" would make more to everyone's liking! You have to watch. Here is a link to the clip. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_bang_th eory/video/?cid=501654023&pid=RAbP51maYZ iYKE299oZTaaOtMWX1EJrN

ROOT Dog Training I need some help! The Highland Park officials would like me to weave the H.P. Character Counts Mottos into my classes and relate them to dogs. The first one I have to tackle is - Trustworthiness! The thoughts I have so far are: Earn trust from your dog that you will not put him in un-safe situations. Earn trust fro...m your community that you have a well trained dog. Any other ideas? Thanks & Wags, Sara

ROOT Dog Training Rally Student Brag! Kellee & her mini Poodle Chuck earned their first 2 Rally Novice Legs! Both with first place finishes in Novice A - with a 99 & a 96. Wow - I think they have the Rally bug. Now they just need to find time out of their Agility schedule to show some more. I'm so proud! Wags, Sara

If they are labeled with a just a number they are from my camera. The only video I took was from my iphone, but I'll post it shortly. If you have any questions about what you are looking at let me know.

ROOT Dog Training Yesterday was the last day of the seminar. I'll sure be missing some of my new friends both animal and human! This photo is of Ken training Ty the California Sea Lion. He is not fully grown, and in this photo he is doing the "smile" behavior. The cue to smile is Ken smiling as you can see. Ty is an awesome animal ...to train and the relationship between him and Ken was beautiful.

ROOT Dog Training Today I got to train with the Belugas! Wow, they are so cool. Here is a photo of me with an adult female doing a lay out position that they train for exams. We also got to train her 2 year old calf who was so cute. They like their tounge scratched as a secondary reward, that was very fun to do. Tomorrow is another fun day.

ROOT Dog Training Today was day one of the seminar at the Shedd! Of course it was awesome. Here is a photo of Ken training some dolphins through the glass. Neat to see the lack of reinforcers directly from Ken and the dolphin still working.
