I have finally been able to influence through the NT teaching schools project. This is a project developed between the university and Eduaction Department in the NT. The project is designed around the training of pre-service teachers. CC has been identified as the coaching methodology of choice for Professional Learnin...g Leaders and Mentor teacher in schools who work with the pre-service teachers while on prac. As such CC Foundation training is now coming to Darwin in 2010. I am also working on getting it identified by executive to be integral to probation and performance management.Read More

Suzanne Kreutzer

Suzanne Kreutzer I have just finished the foundation coaching today with Janelle and Gavin in Bendigo, Victoria. WOW! I have so many thoughts of how I might now use this new knowledge I have and how I might begin to convince some of the other staff members at school of the benefits of Cognitive Coaching. It was certainly a thought provoking PD........ Where to start.....

Great to hear CC stories in Australia! (I'm Darwin based). Suzanne you sound as though you have been really enthused by the Cognitive Coaching training and would like others to experience the same. Where might CC align with current or future initiatives or who might you talk to to identify this ?

Have begun big discussions with leadership at school about how we will incorporate this into our practices (am interested how other schools have done this if anyone has any info that would be great) and am finding myself using it throughout most aspects of my life in one way or another. Hopefully we will be able to train more people from school next year so that they can experience it first hand...... Here's hoping!!

Listen to an audio interview with neuroscientist Daniel Glaser, read about his recent work on the brain's so-called mirror neuron system, learn why it may be vital for us humans, and more.

He did a GREAT job of coaching for self-directedness. Some area HS students protested when their school did not show it.......self-directed themselves to walk out and coach adults to think about "censoring" ......hmmmmm

MaryLou McGirr

MaryLou McGirr Thanks for sharing this work. I appreciate more information research connected to the 5 categories of feedback. I am anxious to actually study it.

Center for Cognitive Coaching

Center for Cognitive Coaching Jay, the original article at http://nymag.com/news/features/27840/ suggests connections to 5 categories of feedback. "...a growing body of research—and a new study from the trenches of the New York public-school system—strongly suggests...[that] giving kids the label of 'smart' does not prevent them from underperforming. It might actually be causing it."

What connections can we make to adults?

Thanks for another article link! I've read her article in Ed Leadership (& use it in PLC training) and just recently heard of her book. The article (Oct 2007 I think it is) is brief, concise, but uses judgmental feedback in its writing of corrected feedback to offer kids to encourage a growth mindset.

Similarly Susan Brookhart's book titled HOW TO GIVE EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK offers overly judgmental & personal observation types of feedback.

Thanks for sharing, Sue. So many connections to our CC work! If only those who believe that we can "fix" public education through pay incentives for teachers and competition, would not only see this video, but would actually take the time to stop and consider the vast research behind Pink's message...

Having attended my 40th high school reunion and spending two days with 250 people of the same age was a unique experience. It heightened my consciousness about age as a filter of perception. We all shared many of the same reference structures including events such as the MLK assassination, Viet Nam, the Kennedy era. ... Of course we also shared common experiences with our teachers, classes, and friendships. So as you work with staff this year, notice how age plays as a filter built from common reference structures.Read More
