- Hilary Michels is an independent singer-songwriter who is often categorized as a soulful indie folk-rocker with a substantive array of other musical styles influencing her writing and vocals.

Influences and music I like listening to: “It’s all over the map. Influences include Sheryl Crow, Jonatha Brooke, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Anna Nalick, Pink, Seal and local singer-songwriter, Peggy Lebo. Other artists such as James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, and Earth Wind and Fire are still rooted deeply in my DNA. In the jazz genre I love Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Bill Cantos in L.A. and our own local jazz legend, Peter Sprague.” My current new favorite is LA-Based Singer-Songwriter Allison Gray.
It’s All About The Journey: “I have never been one to have a linear path in life. I’ve always held on tightly the dream, however, in knowing I had to be a musician; to live the life of a true artist, no matter what. I was a "singer for hire" in my 20s and then reluctantly entered the corporate world, where I stayed successfully for 17 years. After stepping off the corporate ladder to be more involved in raising our daughter, the siren song of music pulled me back more strongly than ever. At that point, I decided there was no more waiting for IT to happen. Now was the time to fully invest myself into the realm of my true passion.”
The First Solo CD: After a two-year journey of writing and recording, Hilary’s first solo CD of all her own original music, entitled Brave New World, debuted with a CD Release concert on November 14th, 2009 at Sherwood Auditorium, La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art.
Since then, she has performed at numerous venues such as Java Jones Coffeehouse (East Village, San Diego) and most recently at Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood.
