Former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry (Flipper) came to realize that these deeply sensitive, highly intelligent and self-aware creatures must never be subjected to human captivity again. His mission brings him to Taiji, Japan where, under cover of night, fishermen driven by a multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment ind...ustry and an underhanded market for mercury-tainted dolphin meat, engage in an unseen hunt. The nature of what they do is so chilling and the consequences are so dangerous to human health they will go to great lengths to halt anyone from seeing it. So O'Barry joins forces with filmmaker Louis Psihoyos and the Oceanic Preservation Society to get to the truth of what's really going on in the cove and why it matters to everyone in the world. With the local Chief of Police hot on their trail and strong-arm fishermen keeping tabs on them, they recruit an Ocean's Eleven-style team of underwater sound and camera experts, special effects artists, marine explorers, adrenaline junkies and world-class free divers who will carry out an undercover operation to photograph the off-limits cove, while playing a cloak-and-dagger game with those who would have them jailed. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery that adds up to an urgent plea for hope. 1hr. 32mins/ USA/ PG-13 Read More

Come experience our Cinema Lounge, in the Hippodrome’s newly renovated basement with cabaret-style seating, full bar, and relaxed atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for all cinema lovers!
This is a special presentation of a 16mm print of Masculine-Feminine, with a selection of “surprise shorts” from FLEX’s 16mm collectio...n! Come be a part of the Hippodrome’s first Cinema Lounge, in our newly renovated basement. Sponsored by FLEX, the Florida Film/Video Festival
Masculine-Feminine was Jean-Luc Godard’s first (but not his last) foray into the burgeoning “Children of the Sixties” generation -- or, as Godard described it, “the children of Marx and Coca-Cola.” Impressionable teenager Paul (Jean-Pierre Léaud) tries to make sense of the world by working as an interviewer for a research firm. Meanwhile, Paul cohabits with aspiring singer Madeleine (Chantal Goya), with two additional young ladies joining the nocturnal festivities. Paul jumps or is pushed from a window, leaving a pregnant Madeleine to move on to the next aimless youth she meets. Though Godard’s free-form style is usually opposed to linear storytelling, Masculine Feminine has solid literary roots, having been inspired by two Guy de Maupassant stories. 1hr 43mins/ 1966-France/ in French/ NR Read More

There’s no better place to spend Christmas than Tuna, Texas where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. In A Tuna Christmas, it’s 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric residents of Tuna, Texas compete in a yard display contest. A Norman R...ockwell painting this is not.
